Danger Close Play Test Game.

Took a day off from pre Salute organisation for a Danger Close game. Testing the vehicle, artillery, helicopter rules. Some tweaks to keep it playable simple but a mix of realistic and fun.

Scenario was a large Russian force charging up a road from one end of the table to the other and a smaller Nato, Bundewehr blocking force trying to slow them down.

Unfortunatly for the Germans they lost their artillery spotter early and so after one barrage were left to the ground troops. A deplyed drone was shot out of the sky immediatly and some bad die rolling also had an impact in the anti tank duels. Casualties were pretty even but the Russians had a lot more resources so crashed through.

Lots of notes taken to tweak the rules and we are trying to get them out in a couple of months.

Certainly one of the best games we have played due to the rules being simple and usable. The numbers we used were really pushing the rules as they are not really designed for this size but did work which was a good sign.

Anyway lets go to the real reason for posting which is to show off some Empress toys in all their glory.

Bundeswehr force of 2 x Leopards, 2 x Puma, Section of infantry with Milan and MMG. Apache Helicopter. 2 x off board artillery pieces.

Russian T14 X 1, T90 x 1, T80 X 6, BTR80 X 7, BMP3 X 2, ACRV With Arty FOO, Shilka, Platoon of infantry. 2 x off board artillery.

The rules, Danger Close, are designed for 15 to 25 figures aside skirmish type but we are just play testing the vehicle section and decided to push the rules to break them and see what we could really do. As said we broke sections of them so need a little re write but they worked very well and we certainly had some great fun.

What is the period covered by the rules? From the 2000s? Or earlier conflicts too?

Very like a 1980's encounters  but without the NATO (smug) superiority ^__^.
NATO would be digging out the old buckets of Instant Sunshine (tm).

I found your Danger Close sheets a couple of months back, so you are looking at publishing a new version?

If I may ask, how did you rate the Russian T-14?

Thanks for that guys. The infantry section is for sale on the Empress site for a digital download price of only £1.50

The next section will follow soon.

The T14 was rated as heavily armoured so it matched something like a Challenger.

However it also has a high defence rating for all of its defensive measure it can 'allegedly' deploy.  For comparison the only vehicle close is the Puma.

Movement is however relatively slow.
