The Franco-Dutch War
The Franco-Dutch War, often called simply the Dutch War (French: La Guerre de Hollande) (1672–78) was a war fought by France, Sweden, the Bishopric of Münster, the Archbishopric of Cologne and England against the United Netherlands, which were later joined by the Austrian Habsburg lands, Brandenburg and Spain to form a quadruple alliance. The war ended with the Treaty of Nijmegen of 1678, which granted France control of the Franche-Comté and some cities in Flanders and Hainaut (all formerly controlled by Spain).

A reason for France's attack against the United Provinces was the support given by that Republic to Spain during the War of Devolution (1667–68). A primary objective of Louis XIV was to gain the support of England. England felt threatened by the growing naval power of the United Provinces and Louis XIV agreed to financially support the English with three million pounds annually. Sweden agreed to indirectly support the invasion of the United Provinces, by threatening Brandenburg if that state should intervene in the war against France.

As part of my Dutch Wars project, my friend Tony Bragg has just begun work on a 17th century port, complete with harbour wall and fortifications.

Base boards

As a base for the project, we used the 28mm Spanish fort and redoubt from Slug Industry (all be it heavily cut up)

The habour wall section will sit on a nice looking sea mat

As you can see, the resin pieces have been deconstructed to extend the harbour

This photo begins to show the width and height of the terrain piece (it's a big boy)

This rear section will be carved into a rock face, with maybe a cave leading to the fortification at the front  ;)

I have to find the first rock face near the dutch coast. Where is the harbour meant to be?

Good start of the project!

Speaking of which, may we expect some new releases for the 1672 range in the not-too-distant future ?   ;)

1672.

After a lack of designer wanting to work on this range, I've now bribed Mike Owen of Artizan Design to take it on.

Dragoon Command first, then the Spanish, then Characters/ Generals. After that skirmishers and armed peasants.

Lovely to hear that Mike is taking this range forward. It's going to be a great time to get into this period.

Dutch armoured pikemen would be good as well  :)

Looks like it's nearly time to start buying from this range again  :D
