Salute 2019 after action report
« on: April 09, 2019, 07:07:57 AM »
So another Salute went by.  Altogether it was a grand show. Lots of traders , very many very well presented games like the one above wich got the best of show award. But it seemed to be a little bit less crowded then in the years before. What ever the reason for this it is still a show worth going to! I met a lot of old friends wich in itself is a good reason to go just to catch up on the social side of the hobby.

Here are a few pictures of my Photo report, many more ( about 200) on https://wargamesgazette.com/2019/04/09/salute-2019-convention-report/

Absolutely - the quality looks high as usual.

Beginning to get the bug for running a game again at some point...ran 5 games in 5 years, and it’s been that long now since I’ve been to Salute, so maybe next year?

I think it's time... And I've missed you being there. Especially as I believe I was there for at least four of those five... (BFBC2, Planet of the Apes, Fantasy WW1, Dune).

There's a bunfight going on about Salute and the quality of this year's offering going on on another certain forum. Some are whingeing about too much sci-fi, too many small 4 x4 games, how the big spectacle games aren't as prolific, the terrain wasn't of a high enough standard etc etc (the usual moan I think).

To put things into some kind of perspective someone from the Antipodes has recently posted about their upcoming convention, the first in several years. They are currently getting themselves worked up into a frenzy over the prospect of seeing 5 games ( yes 5!) and hopefully 8 traders in the same premises at the same time!

I think some of our hobby members need to realise they live in a golden age of wargaming. Never have they been so utterly spoilt for choice, so blessed with quality figures and superb scenery, so many brilliant rules for different periods appearing annually, so overwhelmed with paints inks washes and sprays, or so wealthy enough in both time and money to be able to enjoy this feast of goodliness.

So why don't they give over moaning?

Well put.
I’d only like to see GW keeping the old warhammer world going, and everything would be great.
Just to dip into every now and again, that’s all.

But yes agreed a great time for stunning figures and accessories.

Well I did not go to salute this year, but I still respect the time and effort put into it (and all other shows) for our (the wargames public) benefit.

So I say unreserved massive thank you to all of you that give up your own time and money for the likes of us😁👍
