Judge Dredd and Mean Machine Angel
« on: June 15, 2009, 01:22:35 PM »

I painted these a year or two ago.  I spent a little more time on them then I tend to on miniatures these days even though there were a few shortcuts taken on these guys nonetheless.

2000AD fans might enjoy a look at them.

Comments, criticisms etc all welcome as usual.

Oh yes, these are terrific. Love the coloring, style and overall look. The only thing I can recommend are to use a matt varnish and maybe take the pictures from a closer distance to reduce the grain on the picture (or lower the ISO settings on your camera to the lowest setting).

Great work. Painted very nicely. Agreed that a matte coat would be more appropriate. Otherwise fanastic. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! The comic book look came off pretty well if I do say so myself.

Thanks for the tip.  The photographic part of the hobby is a work in progress for me currently.  I am improving but advice like that is always welcome :)

Nice yellow - whats your recipe?

Its a while since I painted it so my memory of exactly what I used is fuzzy.

I am fairly sure that it was a mix of white with the old GW yellow ink in successive layers in various proportions over a white undercoat.  There may have been a tiny amount of GW orange ink added at some point too.  I am happy with it: it is a vibrant yellow that doesnt stray into lemon or orange too much.

I wont be taking as much time painting the yellow on my other Judge figures: it is way too time consuming and precious a process for me.  It was fun to try it this once but for my purposes (tabletop standard) it isnt worth the time taken. YMMV and all that.
