Weird Japan - update 06/21
« Reply #18 on: June 21, 2009, 07:44:18 PM »
5 figures in "banzai" charging pose. The officer is from Brigade Games, the other figures are from The Assault Group. I quite enjoyed painting these. Yeah, the officer's katana is a bit crooked, but it's moulded that way. Sorry for the bad pictures.

Eh? I fail to understand the expression, but if that be a crack at me I'll have you know I'm not of the province of my residence!

You'd wonder what splendid mustaches some japanese have. Not all are beardless.

New update 06/22: Weird Japan
« Reply #23 on: June 22, 2009, 03:56:30 PM »
Another update:

The bugler. One of the TAG limited edition minis that they give away free if you buy a certain number of packs. Excellent as part of a command group or possible *the* figure for your snipers to take out first in a raid scenario to prevent him from giving the alarm.

The second of my Weird War II sumatori figures. Model from Urban Mammoth. I love the way they look. This one was also much easier to paint than the other one. Fewer hard to reach places.

The third of my converted Perry Miniatures ninja's. This one only had a holster added to his hip, but he's my favorite of the lot. I just love the colours on this one and I think it's the best colour scheme of the three so far.

A group shot with the other three Weird War II ninja conversions:

And an intermediary group shot of all the painted figures so far. Miniatures are by Urban Mammoth (the sumatori), TAG (the charging infantry, bugler and converted zombie), Brigade Games (the two officers) and Perry Miniatures (the converted ninjas). The background scenery items are two aquarium decoration pieces.

I just broke down and bought some TAG Gurkhas with Thompson and Sten-Guns, and a pack of Chindits with Thompsons. I'll eventually need to get some oppostion for them, and this is giving me a whole new wealth of ideas.

I might be easier to sell my potential opponents on this period if I can infuse a bit of weirdness into it.

Love what you're doing!

The TAG Pacific War figures are really nice, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Maybe you need to look in your superfigs range for some suitable figures to go with them. ;)

We might have a thing or two. I think the Yeti Agent might be a bit hot in the South Pacific. but perhaps one of the super-apes? not sure, but I can't wait to get my Gurkhas!

Are your Japanese all Brigade games?

Only the two officers are Brigade Games. Infantry and bugler are TAG. Sumatori are Urban Mammoth. Ninjas are Perry conversions. Zombie is a TAG conversion.

What a great thread- those minis are amazing!

Folks who are interested in WWW2 Japan keep an eye on the Grindhouse Games and Secrets of the Third Reich sites and forums.  We will be publishing a supplement this fall rounding out the US, German, British and Soviet OOB's with more weirdness, but next year will bring a second supplement devoted entirely to the Pacific theatre and the Japanese Imperial Army.  All the Unit 731 super science, Meka-Bushi heavy metal and Shugendo weirdness you can handle.  The units themselves are already in internal playtesting and we'll be letting out details and goodies as development continues.

Meantime- keep posting those minis!  Love 'em!
