Bolt Action and Mogadishu 1993
« on: May 01, 2019, 01:15:12 AM »
I have been slowly working on a table and rule set conversion for modern war insurgent style conflicts based around Mogadishu 1993.

So far I have a few things built but they will need some more modification.

1. Ruined Cars: with a mix of the walking dead scenery cars and die casts I have managed put together a good collection, I do need to make some signage on the trucks and detail in the headlights but otherwise I'm happy with the result so far. Garbage truck not shown.

They look really nice.
I am having a rough time finding old beat up cars for my Mogadishu setting. It is easy enough to find high end sports cars and the like. But beat up old wrecks are hard to come by. I have ended up using the walking dead ones as well but you can't have to many og them as the damage on them is identical.

I bought a whole bunch of plastic and diecast models from eBay as a 'job lot', plus dug out some of my toys from when I was a child (fewer sports cars, more 'real' cars back then). Most were 'pre-damaged' or 'play worn', and I just added actual damage using various tools, a chisel and a hammer being two of them.

Nice work.

I picked up a VW Beetle and a VW van from one of the local discount shops (QD) for £4 and £5 respectively.

Thanks guys.

2. The Surface Area. I wanted to utilise a multifunction soft material and went with a brown felt. After some modifications and water base paints, I started on the texture painting. The result looks good with terrain on it but the large open areas are are missing something

3. Buildings. For the buildings I used paper mache boxes and cross stitch plastic canvas to build these quickly. I then painted them as concrete and gave the walls a quick spray of colour before some highlighting and grime.

Thanks guys. The minis I will be using are the Mars Attacks Americans with a diecast humvee repaint. And for the insurgents I have been working are heavily converted wargames factory male apoc survivors with a recoiless technical

4. Low barricades. Painted up the walking dead scenery pack barricades. Need to work on some full size walls next

5. The Infantry minis. For the US I have used Mars Attacks miniatures, pretty accurate but the plastic is slightly bendy, but otherwise they are usually very cheap to hold of. The insurgents are converted from wargames factory male apoc survivors with Perry Miniatuers Mahdist heads, as the wargames factory minis have very limited weapon options alot of time was taken just to get the arms looking correct. The minis still need some touch ups, highlighting, and basing.

Humvee and technical next

6. Humvee and technical. I used one of the walking dead pickups with converted a basic converted m57 recoiless and some WF apoc survivors with Perry mini heads to make the crew. The humvee is a Masito repaint with a resin spare 50 Cal.
