We are very pleased to release a 15mm range of Chinese and Northern "Barbarians" for the Spring and Autumn Period, as chronicled by Confucius and Sun Tzu, a age in which great states fought for consolidation due to the power vacuum created by the weakness of the central Chou dynasty.  This was the great age of chariot warfare in China, with masses of infantry playing a mostly subsidiary role.

It was also a period in which Chinese Northern "Barbarians" such as the Di and Rong rose to the level of serious menace, the Di in particular destroying several small statelets and establishing their own.  They were both enemies and allies of the Chinese duchies.

The range has models for the Chinese and the Northern "Barbarians" and is available now:

It is a mind trick caused by the helmet of the commander in the chariot and the shadows it creates. Yes, I fell for it!  :D

Now there is another thing on the to buy list...

So did I.
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

Excellent! I hope that some may also work as opponents to the earlier Zhou and perhaps even the Shang. I see that there may be some potential for use as some of their troops, too.

Will there be any armoured or even helmeted Chinese foot? I doubt whether there is much archaeological evidence, but basketwork helmets may be plausible.

Oh, and the shields with medallions could be compatible with some interpretations of Shang Dynasty finds.

It’s the way they were painted and photographed. The figurines look nothing like skeletons.

I have been reading Ralph D. Sawyer's Conquest and Domination in Early China, and it would seem that there were some inter-state relations between the Zhou and the nomadic peoples. Thus, the "Barbarians" may even be useable as early Zhou allies or as early Zhou contingents...

That was very much the case. One of the most praised generals of the Chinese in this period was of “barbarian” stock.
