Varnishing Metal
« on: May 16, 2019, 09:55:36 AM »
Hi,

I have some Perry knight miniatures in the post and have been wondering. After painting them is there a type of varnish that doesn't dull the metallic paints down?
Or would I be better off not varnishing these ones?

Phil.

Perhaps it makes sense to apply metallic paint after applying varnish?

A satin varnish over the metal bits, perhaps?

@ Cuprum, That's usually what I'd do but these models are almost entirely metallic. ;D

@ SteveBurt It sounds like a plan, maybe get the best of both worlds.

Personally I like the look of metals being dulled a bit by matt varnish (the same Perry WOTR armour). Don't know if anyone else agrees with me? It's not as if it stops them looking like metals.

Do you genuinely want them to be super-shiny, or as you just assuming that it's what you'd prefer?

Charlie,

I'm not 100% either way. I don't think these will take me a massive amount of time to paint so I'll try it and if I don't like it, there's always Dettol.  ;) lol
