I am trying to fit some figures useing  F1's into the range but struggling as it seems to be vehicle crews and support troops rather than front line sections useing them.

Or have I missed something. ???

You could certainly do one or two figures carrying them, survey teams etc would carry them when they were going into less peaceful areas.

They were never a popular weapon, most of the carrier guys preferred a pistol as there was less chance of snagging it as you jumped in or out.

If you do dismounted/bailed out Aussie tank/APC crew at some stage, giving them an F1 would seem appropriate.

To the best of my knowledge, F1s were never standard issue to rifle companies. The Owen was replaced by the M16, first in Vietnam and then army wide. If they were going to turn up anywhere in an infantry battalion, it would have been in BHQ or maybe admin coy, QM platoon. They did see service in supporting arms and non arms corps, MPs, transport (AASC) and the like.

Apart from the occasional range practice, the only use they ever got in my experience was for pay parades. Some unlucky sods were given an unloaded F1 and a 30 round magazine that got stuck in their pocket as security for the payroll (pre EFT). Fuck knows what would have transpired had someone actually had the balls to rob the payroll. Hang on mate whilst I load this thing! We debated this at length and concluded that using it as a club or even throwing it at a robber would have been the most effective use.

It didn’t even see an outing on exercise, even for enemy party as there was no blank firing attachment for the thing.

Bit of a non-starter really apart from APC crews.

That's brilliant as its what I had got to in my research.

Look s like a pack of ANZAC MP's and pay clerks. Plus the odd dismounted tankie.

Have read that the SASR used them but cannot find any reference and really do not think they would have touched them with a barge pole from what I have read about the weapon.

I rather doubt the SAS used the F1 as well. Useless fucking thing. They did have silenced Sterlings though.

A pay clerk with an armfull of manila folders, armed with a confused look and an F1 could make an interesting objective marker...

Re Aussie SASR, how far down the line are they and/or other special forces types?

Thought my last go looked a tad dark, so gave them a another highlight.

Apparently I'm wrong then! Please accept my apologies. Young bucks like me are more used to tupperware F88s than weapon systems older then my father  ;)

Looks like I need the F1 packs too  :D

Top work on the new NVA too Ash!

Thanks Simon.

I also finished a pack of Viet Minh with the same SG-43s, should fit in well with the rest.
