Cheers gents; I've got the huts almost painted and then got somewhat sidetracked into box of plastic plants & palm trees, but getting there...

Well, here's the MK I DIY hut:

Had a slightly odd shaped 'pond base' from Warbases that it just about fitted onto.

Another Warbases 'pond' with some Pegasus Banana trees.

Nicely done bud.  I like the thatching, very nice.   I’m looking forward to seeing the others painted.

If the height has you worried, you could simply add a thatch covered porch which would disguise the height quite nicely I think.

Ta very much.

A porch sounds like a cunning plan, would break up the rather bland front. Will have to break out the hairy fur stuff again...

Thanks a lot.
Never say never...

Here's the other two on stilts (aka chop sticks).

Both together; somewhat precariously balanced, which is why they look like they are leaning away from each other a bit.

Really good mate!

Like me, you probably need to hunt for bits to dress them now!  Hanging drying mats / clothing, baskets and cooking utensils / pots, fishing equipment, tools etc!   Let me know what you find!  ;)

Yup, they definitely need some lived in clutter. So far I seem to be a failing to find anything that looks the part...

Funnily enough, back when I was trying to make huts for my 20mm Bush Wars stuff I was using the bristles from an old brush (painting walls kind of brush) to 'thatch' the roofs; a frustratingly pointless excercise. Eventially I just set fire to the last one, turned out better than expected, with genuine, authentic smell of smoke..!

Very cathartic...

Here's some more pics:

This stuff was new for me, Coconut fibre. Found a vid on Youtube for 'making bushes', chap used coconut fibre, spray glue & flock. I had a rummage in the box of stored crap and found a sheet of 'rubberised horse-hair' (must have been there at least a decade); not sure why it has that name as I doubt any horses were involved in its production. Looks to me to be coconut fibre sprayed with latex. Anyway tear bits off, spray with glue, sprinkle flock - job done.

You should look up Vietnamese cemeteries. I am not sure how it is in the south. But up north they have very lavish cemeteries at the entrances to many rural villages. be it little mounds for the poor to huge mausoleums for the more well off.

Think there is a kit by Rubicon with some market pieces that might work for it! A friend of mine has used railway scenery stuff to great effect for food items, such as fish and small-ish pigs. At times even vegetables.
