Being out of little metal blokes to attack with powertools and paint, I made the mistake of rummaging through a box of off cuts of MDF, XPS and plasticard...

Had a go at some Vietnam'ish terrain for the US.

Ammo storage thing:

It's a piece of textured styrene (Evergreen sort of stuff), I cut a grove into both sides of the base. Jammed in one side and glued it with CA, once dry bent the other side into the other slot and glued it. Not quite symmetrical, but looks ok.

Made it to go with a mortar pit; just ordered an M29 81mm mortar + crew, that should look the part...

Thanks for the tip.

Next question - how do you get your sandbags so neat and even?

Thanks for the tip.

Ended up with lots of different shapes and sizes. Spent ages trying to press sticky sandbags to the trenches, but that stuff prefers sticking to skin.
On the learning curve front; I now mix the miliput, roll it out on some grease proof baking paper, fold the paper over the roll and squash it flat ('ish) then leave it for about half an hour. Trim the flattened roll of miliput with a scalpel into a long rectangle , then just cut the 'bags' off one at a time, prod them into shape and press them onto the trench/bunker. Still get a lot of mutants, but if something looks really bad just stick another one over it.

The last piece, so far.
This started as a trench with a fighting position, then added a roof, then roof over trench, which resulted in the steps.

thanks guys. I'm just looking at how big some of those sandbags turned out. The ones on the roof are probably about right, others look like they raided a soft furnishings dept and grabbed all the futon cushions!
Next time I'm going to draw a couple of parallel lines, the length I want, on the paper and actually measure them.

Here's couple of pics with the roof off, support column lifts out as well.
