That vehicle looks really great.  All that firepower and they still lost.

The patches aren't too taxing. I start with a 'T' shape of the background colour, then fill in the sides to form a sort of shield shape. Fill in the base colour with 'White Grey', leaving a sort of keyline of the base colour around the edge. A diagonal line of blue across the middle, then fill in the side. A dot of the same blue in the top left quarter, followed by a slightly dodgy elongated blob of grey in the middle to give the impression of the armoured cavalry insignia. Won't bear close scrutiny, but looks ok from a distance.

Used the example in this rather interesting take on scale & perspective as a guide.

Thank you for the advice, Ash. Thus far I only painted some roundels on helmets and the like. Might use this advice for my moderns. Very effective!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I was going to do another M113 for the ARVN, fancied the idea of one with a twin .30cal turret. Couldn't find an M74C, toyed with the idea of doing something with the commander's cupola from the M48, ended up with the T50 turret from the Gage. Then realised the ARVN didn't use them...

However turns out the Aussies did.

Bit of what looks like a 'muddy' thumb print, will paint over...

I wouldn't paint over it...you might be surprised how/where dirt and rust show up on AFVs... ;)

Beautifully done. Now for the super committed you should slice a little bit off the drivers hatch so it doesn't impede the turret traverse when it's open and add the anti-depression bar for the guns forward of the cargo bay.*

Out of curiosity, where did the T50 turret come from? Interestingly enough, the M74C turret, problematic as it was, probably saw as much service with Australia in Vietnam as the replacement T50.

* Just joking, nobody will notice. :)

Mmm, it's deff a finger print. Should paint over it, your comment though has given ammunition to my inner apathy... :)

I was going to try to do the anti-depression bar, got side tracked, then stuck so much stuff around the back I forgot to go back to it.
Re the drivers hatch; one thing I noticed on the reference pictures is the hinges should be offset at an angle so that the hatch doesn't fold straight back, but off to the side a bit. Turret is from the Gage Commando.

Great work! I particularly like the stowage and the 'lived-in' look it creates!

Cheers for the links. I think I will have a go at adding the anti-depression bar.
