So... I've bitten down and started on a Vietnam project - Still very much WIP, so it might fall under 'workbench' if so, Admin please move as apropriate.

I'm very much tempted by the excellent Empress and Gringo40 models - But I wanted to get my baddies in check before I went full-on G.I.Joe

My gaming/rules platform will be Spectre Operations with the Jungle Supplement modded - So plans for a 9-man MACV-SOG Recon Team is also in the works.

Still need a few bits and greenstuff to turn the woolyhats, Brodie helmets and some of the boonies hats into Nón Lá's or Rice hats

The VC conversions are based on Eureka Somali and ZANLA models (because I had them around) with Empress heads - The bulk of my MACV-SOG are Empress and Under Fire Miniatures (Their RhSAS are very usefull)

Still hoping that Ebob will hear the jungledrums and release those LRRPs - But until then I've got plenty to keep me busy...

For quick objectives I got three 81mm mortars from Eureka and some Huts from Sarissa.

What have you used for thatching on the hut?

Teddy Bear fur (No Teddy's where harmed in the making)

Brushed with a 1:1:1 mix of texture paint, water and wood glue - Set to dry for about 10 minuttes. Then brushed with a large teeth comb.

Looking at the VC/NVA figures, I thought of the sun hatted figures in the newish Warlord DAk and Commonwealth figures that have entered the market. There are lots of spare heads around and a variety of sun hat styles in those sets.

Yup - I quite like that they are just a tad smaller in heigh than the Empress/Under Fire models - Also, most of them are wearing flip flops and pyjamas typ light clothing...

USMC boonie hats will get a top trim and reworked for a more round/floppy appearance - Ordered some VC hats from TAG, I'm excited to see how they will look.

Faces on the USMC and watch cap heads are more western looking, but I'm hoping paint will help to blur that

Have you tried the Empress VietnaPara years (DBP21?)?

Yes - The heads used are a mix of Empress:

Viet Minh set - DBP23
Russian Watch caps - RUS11
USMC Booniehat - USMC13

The Watch caps and boonies will be modded tho...

I considered getting the Viet Mihn sets, but I already had a load of the Somali/ZANLA models so..
