Hi!

I'd like to do a 25/28/32mm scale miniature game around the Redwall and the more recent (and brilliant!) Mouse Guard theme. For background info on what I'm talking about go here:

Redwall: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redwall
Mouse Guard: http://www.mouseguard.net/index.htm
Mouse Guard Characters: (click on pictures) http://www.mouseguard.net/characters.htm

These are of course anthropomorphic animals of some sort, almost all of whom are capable of speech. I'm particularly interested in starting with Mice as the "good guys" and would like some rats/weasels/ferrets as enemies to start with. As far as artistic direction is concerned, the Mouse Guard look appeals the most to me, but I'd be happy with anything really. Foxes/Snakes and wolves would be giant monster/predator creatures and make for a nice centrepiece. Any ideas in this are will also be appreciated.

Here's a cool pic of a group of Guard mice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mgrpg.PNG

Please make some recommendations as to where I could source some good minis for this.

Thanks in advance!

PS: I intend to use the Song of Blades and Heroes system as the core rules for this game. The latest Song of the Splintered Lands source book has been my inspiration ( http://www.ganeshagames.blogspot.com/ ) alongside the Mouse Guard Role Playing Game. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mouse_Guard#Games and http://www.wizarduniverse.com/080108mouseguardrpg.html)

Here's a picture of some Mouse Guard characters for reference:

Thanks for any advice on getting something suitable in 25 - 32mm scale!

Sure.... but I'd like to see what's available in 25-32mm scale. The Splintered Light minis are 15mm AFAIK. Thanks for a solid lead though! I may end up having no choice with regards to scale, but it's worth a try to see what's around in a larger scale.

I like the Redwall series as well and have always been on the lookout for appropriate miniatures.  I once even sculpted a badger, intended to represent a Redwall badger.  The Splintered Light minis are really nice.  I hope they come out with more of them.

What's always made me a little uneasy about the Redwall series is how every character can be instantly pegged as a "good guy" or a "bad guy" based simply on species.  It seems too akin to prejudism/racism, in which assumptions are made about a person based solely on skin color.  While I read these books occasionally, and love their art (and will someday paint related miniatures), I sort of think twice about reading the books to my young kids.  Is this too PC of me?  :)

According to the site, the SL minis are between 12 to 20mm.  Seems to me that this would about correspond to 28mm scale, in that I would think even anthropomorphized animals would be somewhat smaller than humans in the same scale.

Lance and Laser do some nice ones in the quactica range (still only 20mm to the top of their head). Their site seems to be down atm...  :(

Found them here though:

I think kids like things simple and straightforward - adulthood, when it comes, will be complicated enough. There will be more than enough time in their future to deal with racism/prejudice/etc.

But more importantly, did you find any suitable minis in 25-32mm scale?   :)

Well, the quactica ones I suggested are technically 28mm scale, just not 28mm tall... ;)

oooh! That Lance and Laser minis looks good... and as a previous poster pointed out, 20mm for small animals will probably be just fine compared to humans standing 25-32mm tall. Thanks for that. Do they do any suitable "bad guys"?

they have their variant on orcs and goblins which are basically pigmen and piglets.
And the Ducks of course, which are cartoony, but with lots of character.

Otherworld does some nice pigfaced orctypes too.

there's a few ratmen in the range, but I guess you're spoiled for choice on those with GW's current and old (ebay) skaven ranges and the Black Tree Design ones.

Of course, generic Ratmen and GW Skaven should do nicely too, as well as not be too hard to find various manufacturers for either... Thanks for the suggestion!

Skirmisher seems to do the Quactica range. I found these so far:

The hunt goes on....

I can second the Splintered Light minis. I have scaled them next to my 28mm figs and they definitely are not to scale for the sorts of animals they are. They do however make a huge variety of poses and animals and the range will be expanding.

Fortress Figures do some nice rat pirates.

http://www.fortressfigures.com/cgi-bin/fortstore/commerce.cgi?product=Anthropomorphs&cart_id=1245711443.45171

They're definately on the large side, being at least 28mm.  I've painted a couple and they're nice.  They might be a little too "piratey" though.
