I built one from foam board and a spool of stick-on led light strip. No phoos now, I’ll get some when I get home.

A bit cluttered, as this has ended up being my spot for dropping anything hobby related until I can put it away properly.

Tech has come a ways since I bought my foldable one many years ago. It's made of cloth in a metal frame, and has two separate, external stands with halogen spots, which require a lot of (extra) room to set up. Also they reach temperatures on par with those at the sun's core in about two seconds after they're switched on...

So those things prevent me from using it regularly.

Now, a (semi?)permanent setup with LED's might be a lot more useful, so I'm definitely keeping this idea in mind.

The AliExpress option might not be expensive, but it's also not permanent, and that would probably pose a reason for lazy me to just click away at a mini on my desk, using my phone... ::) One or two could be used for parts perhaps though.

Thanks guys; I now have some ideas percolating for a new LED lit setup that can be easily stored, but can be taken out and put to use in mere seconds :D

Can't go really wrong with one of these, they are cheap as dirt:

Ive got one of these, well worth the few pounds it cost. It’s not the most robust, but it does the job. It can also be left up if you have the space for that (and its only small). That is the main downside, is that is good for a few figures, but not loads at once.

I do have a bigger cloth light box, probably a 60-70cm cube, but this rarely gets used, as its big, you need an external light source, I tend to use in the conservatory with sun light.

Thanks for the info.   :)

I don't have a permanent space.

As my current lamps are on the way out so I need to purchase replacements, I wondered if investing in a more "mobile" solution with built-in lighting would be an idea.  I need to know though how the photographs of the painted figures turn out?

[aliexpress link deleted]

I've got one of these, and it is a piece of junk. The magnetic catches are inadequate to hold it together, the LED strip is inadequate to light it properly. It's better than nothing, but you'd be better off just building a better one.

The photos in this thread were mainly taken using the cheap Aliexpress light box (at least the ones with a black foam background). They are just hand held photos with an iPhone

Hah! This is the one I've got but via Ebay. Worth bearing in mind those images at the bottom may have been 'shopped as it's not as big as you might think from those. I complained about that and the listed dimensions being incorrect and ended up with mine for free...
