Angel models
« on: June 20, 2019, 11:06:31 AM »
Hi,

Anyone have an idea for good angel models. I want a couple of christian/medieval looking angel-like figures that might fit a 28mm crusader army. Probably a decent size, say 50mm or more tall.

I don't really want them full of fantasy/GW style flavour.

Also RAFM - but maybe a bit more classically styled:

And some, oh, let's call them chunkier ones from West Wind:

Oh, and Heresy have remastered their HUGE angel in resin:

I have one of the original metal ones - its bloody lovely.

Honestly though, if you are looking for more medieval styles of armour, you may be better off getting some regular knights, maybe even in 40mm, and nailing wings to them, most of the angels I've seen tend to be very Greek looking.

Although there are these in the Basilean line from Mantic:

Cheers!

Here's one from Heresy miniatures; very nice, but a bit pricey mayhaps?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I feel like most of these are probably human-sized. It's hard to know coz they don't have any comparison shots, though.

Yes, mostly human sized.

The Heresy one is bigger though, think maybe ogre sized.

I have pic in a group shot here:

The Tom Meier angel in this set is 54mm and seems like it fits your requirements nicely. I have one, and it's a lovely sculpt. They are common on ebay. I see three up on ebay right now and one for a modest price. The dragon is also great but if you don't want it I'm sure you could pass it on as there are probably more who would want the dragon than the angel.

Reaper also has quite a few angels. All are larger than 28mm scale, but most look to be 32mm scale like the other Reaper humans, not 50+. A few are quite large, though, such as the the solar and Avatar of Aurellius. IMO the solar is not the most successful figure, and the avatar has plate armor, but perhaps you could say heaven has superior technology. Perhaps the Gardian Angel, Crusaders Solo would be a suitable choice for you, or the Deva, Angel.  I have most of the Garrity ones, which are in line with human Reaper figures. Many have a scale indicator in the picture.

The Mantic ones are much taller than humans though their armour is fairly fantasy styled. best example I can find of the size (not my pics).

There was an old OOP range, Ex Illis which had archangels if you can track them down. Fantasy styled but not insanely so I don't think, at least less than some of the other options.
