I'm glad you all like the way this is plodding along .
I've just finished a grueling run of work.
So hopefully I'll be able to sneak a little time for this tomorrow evening.
I know well and truly mixing up periods and styles but Gormenghast it isn't( I'll be lucky to build anything with a footprint of 40cm square.)
Here's a couple pictures of what I'm aiming for with the hoardings .

Peithetarios,
I'm not a big fan of painting anymore. Gone are the days of painting elves with blue eye's. Nope everything is toned down to a' bums on seats ' style of painting.
So I aim for an arms length standard for the Empire
Section of this project. The Dwarves are in a different style to the Empire. But the High Elves are where I'll be putting a little more effort and time in.

That dwarf banner really is the tits!  :o

Wifey is looking over my shoulder and is just as impressed.  :D

Just for you and the Mrs. Here's a quick grabs worth. (Although the marine is looking a little battered after year of dodging dice)Plus a couple of High elves to give some gravitas to my previous statement on using different painting styles for different races.

Poxy Elves! Pixie-fiddlers the lot of them! It's the honourable upstanding dependable unthwartable dwarves you should be honouring with your brush work.... just dunk the pointy-eared unicorn-botherers in rainbow paint and call them done!

Good lord those banners. They're not decals? You painted every one of those?????????????

That Space Marine banner in particular is on a whole other level.

Since you all know which end of a brush is which.
I'll take that as a win lol

Cheer s

Tony,
I'll only be pleased when there's enough done for a table.Even then it's a bit anticlimactic.
Traditionally it goes along the line of. Me and Tony(another Tony -there's a lot of you.)Will spend an age setting up a table. Open a bottle of red stand around feeling smug then finish the bottle , look at the table and one of us or both (more often than not.) will say "Pub".
Since these days I'd struggle to drink a third of what he does .Thats pretty much the end of the first outing for them .Theres normally a couple of false starts before dice are rolled. ::)

Pointy ears ,are a lot more time consuming than Dwarves . Once you've painted flesh tones, beard, and metallics  your more than 80% done with a dwarf

Matt,
Never used a shield transfer or printed banner. All are just painted.(Nothing wrong with them .Just never been able to justify the exspense.)
The spacemarine banner is as old as the figure. If you want I'll try and take a better photograph as the night sky is a little more colour full than the photo show's.
All the banners except the dwarf one are double sided.Felt a little OTT to show pics of the reverse side's since they're pretty much the same as the fronts.

You know, that banner is possibly the best I’ve seen on a Space Marine, subtle and original, brill!

It's a very old banner it was made for the figure when the figure was first released(it's not looking so clever on the reverse side of the banner  ;))

Since I committed a the sin of mixing scifi and Fantasy in my pic's. I thought I'd redeem myself with a selection of pics. I paint in slightly different styles for different type's of rules/ games.
Here's some Lotr that are for the table top and the RPG respectively.

Here's a few more.
Old citadel dragons . Plus a dragon ogre converted from a Marauder miniatures Dragon the torso I think is either Mrauder or Citadel I seem to remember it came with that plastic horse body with a square bottom.

Last but not least a quick group shot of the Empire banners so far.To bring us full circle.
The golden standard ornament is the recycled. Helm of one of the Battle masters knight's that will make up numbers in one of the units.Infact I've used another one to act as the standard ornament of second unit.As it seems to hide it's origins quite well once its plonked on top of a banner.

(Sorry for the spreading the pictures over multiple posts. Unfortunately it was the only way around that time out error that pops up every now and again.)
