Excellent painting and basing! They’re vicious looking little blighters. I like the reds and bone colour you used, it works well with the green skin.

Great looking gobbos.

For some reason we never really got in to Saga AoM - despite having played loads of 1st edition Saga, and several of us getting all the dice and rules etc.

You should give it a go. It's a lot of fun. Saga 2.5 is a much better version of the game than Saga 1.0, and AoM is a great way to play it.  One of the many reasons I really like AoM is that the factions are broad enough that if there is a fantasy army or model line that you fancy, no matter how oddball, you can probably find an AoM faction (or two) that fits those models. It's also a great way to repurpose models from an old rank-and-flank fantasy game, like Warhammer. Also, I like that only need 40-60 models to play the game.

Just make sure you are playing the latest versions of the core rules.

Also, Age of Magic 2 is on the distant horizon (late 2025). It will not replace the original AoM book, but rather it will add 6 additional factions, new spell domains, and add other new goodies to the AoM Universe.

We did play a couple of times when it first came out - I almost wonder if it is so open around list building that as a group we struggled to work out what to field, and then to learn the army battle boards as well. Feels you need to play a bit to get a good feel for the units and the battle board and the spells!

Perhaps with the dark ages saga there were just fewer choices - so it was a bit easier to learn - though at that time we were learning the rules as well.

Not sure why we haven’t gone back - I’m struggling to remember the last time I had 28mm fantasy figures out on the table. Seems the same old ‘problem’ of too many games and not enough time to play them all.

Very nice Goblins.  Love the painting handle your using - still have a couple of those bottles with paint in them.

I still have a couple dozen of the old hexagon bottles. It's crazy, these paints have all been previously opened and are over 20 years old and many still have good paint in them.  On the other hand, once you open a modern GW bottle, you have only months to use it, maybe a year. Coincidence?  I think not.

For my purposes, the old paint pots make great handles. After priming, I fasten the models to the lids with a hot glue gun.  The secret is to give the dollop of glue a few seconds to cool a bit before pressing the models base into the glue. If the glue is too hot, it can slightly fuse with the plastic base, making it a bit harder to remove. If you let the glue cool a bit, the bond is strong enough to keep the model on the base, but weak enough that you don't have to work too hard to get the hot glue to pop off the base.

Shieldwolf Miniatures. If you go back to page 7 of this thread you can see original build of this warband and my take on the Forest Goblin kit. I am currently painting a unit of 12 archer levy built from this kit.

BTW, the goblin with the big axe is also made by Shieldwolf Miniatures.

Aside from the 3D printed giant spiders, I'm going to round off this warband with heroes and spider riders from Punga Miniatures.

Awesome thanks Koyote! I have a couple of unopened blisters of metal Forest Goblins still, they’ve become so hard and expensive to get, these plastics from Shieldwolf look the part for sure.

I am making good progress on this project. I painted a total of 31 infantry models in the last 34 days. This is moving a light-speed for me.

This afternoon I finished a unit of levy archers. I realized that the bases weren't popping as much as I'd like so I added some flower tufts. Happy with the results, I added flower tufts to the 2 units of Warriors that I finished earlier.

Next up are my Sorcerer and Warlord. Both are Punga Miniatures.

8 Point Age of Magic Warband: Painting to-do List

Lieutenant -done
6 HG
8 Warriors - done

I've finished all of the warband's heroes.  From left to right: Sorcerer, Warlord, and Lieutenant.

It's time to get to work on some Creatures.

Best fantasy skirmish system currently in print.
