Thanks! Yeah, I was thinking a Captain as well... maybe put some red on there and put him with the Morannon Orcs.

I am surprised my Black Numenoreans did not spark any outrage...

... but more conventional minis are here...

... including one done by my wife!

Thanks mate, slow but steady...

Some Legolas and Wood Elf minis finished.

More photos and info on the blog. Since leaving comments on the blog is a bit awkward for folks, I would encourage people to feel free to put comments on here instead.

I am always keen for feedback, suggestions and advice. Recently a friend (thanks Stefan!) suggested I try a fine point marker for eyes. It has helped, although it can still sometimes leave a bit of a bug eye look of the eyeball is sculpted sharply.

That all has a great Middle Earth vibe. I'm not very familiar with fantasy figure manufacturers, but are these designed as Middle Earth figures, or just pressed into service as such? lol

It has been a mix of the usual Games Workshop Lord of the Rings minis and a wide range of other historical as well as fantasy minis. Basically what I could win inexpensive on eBay that then also passed approval from my wife. Stuff that did not pass was sold on or given as gifts.

Ideally I think I would have liked to go the more common Tolkien purist route of various Dark Ages minis but my wife is quite keen on some of the Games Workshop minis that look like what Peter Jackson and Weta Workshop came up with for the movies... so since that means later period plate armor for example, I figured I may as well make use of whatever I can that can retain some sense of continuity.

A lot of diversity started making sense the more research I did, for example when  I started looking into other Middle Earth mediums... like computer games.

Well, your wife may have the right feel for it. I think the overall look is just right!

No outrage, but what are you assuming your Black Numenoreans are, with grey skin and blue eyes?  I thought he looks like he's wearing glasses.

Some sort of undead, or just pumped up on black magic?

From his blog:
I know some Tolkien purists will wonder on the pale skin and blue eyes. My wife and I decided to be inspired by Jackson’s take on the Mouth of Sauron as well as GW´s take on them being supernaturally long lived as a gift from Sauron.

For what is is worth, Grumpy, I don't see glasses. The eyes look more like they are glowing to me. Touched by magic? I don't do a lot of source lighting stuff when I paint, and I don't paint eyes, so I don't have difficulties making some logical leaps or using my imagination  lol

Nice to see folks engaging in the thread. Thanks for replying for me, I have had some technical issues preventing me posting.

My wife and I are going with the GW fluff of immortality, so undeadish. The purplish grey skin and blackened blood is from the Weta Jackson film design of the Mouth of Sauron. The blue eyes are my own twist, a bit Game of Thrones I suppose. I still have not quite cracked glowing eyes yet.
