Looking for Some- Korean Air War Aircraft
« on: May 11, 2020, 03:48:36 PM »
Greetings everyone,

I have been toying around with the idea of a Korean Air game, but I need to find out how easy it is to get some of the aircraft in miniature.  Since I am in the US, US distributors would be appreciated.  I am looking for 1/300 or 1/285 scale but really any scale will work.

I am especially interested in the following aircraft:

USAF
- P-80 Shooting Star
- F-95 Starfire
- F-84 Thunderjet

USN
- F9F Panther/Cougar

Communist Forces
-Yak-18 Max
-Yak-9 Frank
- LA-11 Fang
-Tupolov TU-2

British
- Hawker Sea Fury
- de Havilland Vampire
- Gloster Meteor

I am finding Mig-15s, B-29 Super Fortress, and F-86 Sabres pretty easy to find, but other aircraft of the period a bit tougher.  A few here and there from "1-man shop" type places and often sold out or no longer stocked.

If you could give me a hand that would be great!

I haven't looked for all your choices but here are my thoughts.

In the US I assume you started with GHQ. Also I-94 enterprises handles a few companies and may cover most everything.

Going to the UK, I have had good luck with ordering them even under present circumstances, there is Heroics and Ros and Scotia Grendel. H&R is dealing with the present situation by alternating production between ranges so it may be some time before the ones you are looking for come available.

Finally Shapeways may cover the remaining models. I have bought a few models from them. Try to get ones produced with "high detail plastics", or called something similar. I bought some with standard plastic and they were OK but had a rough surface while those made with the higher detail material, or process, had excellent surface finish.

If you need links I can probably find them. You should be able to Google and find almost all. Hope this helps.

Hi, I don't know US suppliers but can vouch for both H&R and Scotia Grendal in the UK.  If you were prepared go smaller, Tumbling Dice in the UK produce a vast range of 1/600 aircraft which cover almost anything you would need for any period. Well worth a look.

Thanks guys.

I am doing a broad survey so 1/144, 1/300 or 1/600 are all good!

Thanks for the help so far.  I looked at GHQ but only found Sabres and Mig-15s.  No other similar craft.  Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place......

Scotia’s Collectair range covers pretty much all of those in 1/300.

Give my regards to Dr Dre and Ice Cube btw, I loved your earlier stuff.  ;)

I assume pendraken is in the UK. They are handled/made by I-94 if you are in the US.

You could also take a look at the 3D files available from Thingiverse (which are generally free). Find the planes you want and send them to a print service to have them re-scaled if necessary and printed in Resin.

I have just done it via Etsy to obtain some 1/200 models of the Argentine Pucara for my Falklands War collection.  Good way to pick up models generally "too obscure" for mainstream manufacturers.
