French Peninsular force reaches the half way mark.
« on: August 20, 2019, 08:23:01 PM »
It's taken far too long, and painting the Anglo-Portuguese at the same time has slowed things up - especially in the early days where there wasn't enough to game with for what seemed an age  - but things seem to have moved on apace just recently. Small games have been possible for a while but, at last, I'm getting to the point where games have more than 'everything in the front line'.

The French, outnumbering the British by five units, have now achieved half projected strength. Twenty units are banked and ready to take to the field. I have to say, I'm quite pleased. Things always seem easier once past the halfway stage - though I doubt productivity will increase much.

Anyway, enough. For descriptions, unit ID, figure numbers, notes, etc. - go to:

But here, just the pics (to enlarge, go to the link).

I have just bought my first box of figures for this period and now your work is making me realise what is ahead! Amazing army, beautifully painted and based.

Thanks,

Hi, Digit, Too damn long!

I bought the first batch of figures, weighing in at 28 Kg (you should have seen the postie), back in 2015 but, I didn't really start painting until May 2016 because I was finishing my SYW collection at the time. So about 3 years - currently 35 units painted - so a unit a month - ish.

This is quite an appalling rate of painting for me - I painted these three SYW armies (50 units apiece) in about four years. SYW troops are easier to paint, it's true, but not that much easier. My initial aim was to paint the Peninsular stuff in about two years - about 20 figures a week, my usual rate.

I shall tie myself to a chair and flog myself as soon as this reply is posted. >:(

An impressive looking collection, and I can only dream of keeping up that rate (and quality) of painting over such a long time period
