Can you give me a quick rundown on how you weathered your die cast? I have a stack of them waiting for me to attempt to do something similar on...

I'd definitely appreciate it!

Sure, no problem.
1) Bullet holes are put in with a drill
2) paint the car (I find a lot of bought cars have metalic paint-jobs) If doing a batch I just choose a selection of (cheap) paints, e.g. Match-pots.
3) When '2)' is dry, thin some dark colour (burnt umber, black etc.) This helps with filing in the panel lines.
You can achieve a similar effect with a 2b pencil, but you have to keep sharpening it as it goes blunt quickly.
4) When '3)' is dry, start drybrushing the car. Again I utilize Match-pots.
    a) Mid brown  [Chocolate], b) lighter brown [tea], c) very light brown [ cappuccino]
Start with a) & working from the bottom of the car moving up to about three quarters of the way up.
then   b) similar, but only about half way up.
finally   c) only the lower quarter.
5) If the car has been burnt, I thin a black & brush upwards, from the bottom, or any open windows.
Should you want the grass etc. scorched, then a mixture of thin wash & dry brushed black will do it.

Honest, this takes less time to do than explain. :D
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the recipe! My first thought was to just a really dark wash on the metallic portions, but I see you do a lot more. The minimalist in me is thinking, "What? Paint a car already painted?" But I see why. My 3D printed cars that I painted myself don't look near as glossy and fake new as die cast.

I will give it a go and let you know how it turned out!

Looking forward to that.
Remember, as they are wrecks it doesn't matter how bad they look.
Other touches can be used to disguise the naff bits,
e.g. Spot of glue then dab on some cotton wool. Leave it to dry and pull it away. Result smoke as the wreck is still smouldering, or
cut up some bricks from an off-cut (blue foam, card etc) & glue them in & around dents in roof or bonnet, or
pile some clutter along side a dented front or wing. The car stopped when it hit this.

Just have fun with it. It is a nice change from painting detailed uniforms, & it is supposed to look a mess. lol

Found a few deserters from the French Indian Wars.
Based them up & given them a tart up, but will they be in time for todays game?

In a bargain box of figures bought off eBay, came two (Irregular?) 54mm Figures.
As I'm in a bit of a French & Indian Wars mood at the moment, I painted them up.

Waaaay too big for use in the recent game though. lol

Very nice.
I've seen a few 54mm games at shows and took part in one with 6 figures a side (hunting turkeys / each other) - really liked the size compared to the normal scales as you seem to become more attached to the folk you are using  lol

True, my early foray into Western Gunfight was courtesy of Brian Povey (sadly gone)
and in 54mm. Many fond memories. I may revisit it, I have a small box of western 54mm
bits.
Another friend, Andy Taylor (still with us) had an idea of making up some musket charges.
A bit of dowel, marble, paper towel, wood glue & a paint job.
You think players get attached to figures, you should see them clutching their last few
rounds!  :o

My contribution to Flatpack's upcoming Invasion of Crete WW2 project.
Some German Paras, or as my friend John refers to them...
Falling, screaming, yobos.  lol

Oh I mistakenly thought Bob (Flatpack) had included a British Officer, & painted him up.
Turns out he is a Luftwaffe officer. Worry not Bob had overpainted him. His loyalty must
be in question though, as underneath it all...he is BRITISH ! :D

Some years ago my wife & I were in the USA on holiday.
Amongst other places we visited Kevin Costner's Buffalo
hunt 'museum' .
Life size statues depicting a...Buffalo Hunt. :D

My wife was VERY impressed with the statues, less so with
the gift shop. No little Buffalos to take home.
Rash promise from me, 'I can get some wargame ones &
make you a diorama' 8)

Fast forward about a decade, & here it is.
