More from Hammerhead.
Planter's family, from Grubby Tanks/Britannia 28mm.
Dad, Mum, Daughter & Dog. To be used in ultra Modern games.
Armoured Land-rover, from Urban Constructs, shown with the family
as the normal owners (Empress SAS) are still on the painting table.
I thought I had finished it, but decided it needed a soft toy/mascot,
hence the Polar Bear on the front in the last picture. My wife loves
Polar Bears, we must have over a hundred of the stuffed toy variety.
Thankfully not even one real one.

Just under the wire, for things done this month, are the following,
joining the Government army of 1745:-
(All mainly re-basing, with a little painting of collars &cuffs)
Unit of Grenadiers, 4 bases either as an add hoc Assault unit or to beef up some line units.
Unit of Hat-Men, no flag(s) as I will use them as poorer quality, Militia maybe.
Two bases of mounted Officers. No existing rules for such under Rebels & Patriots, so
will have to create some.

Helen will kill you, if she finds her polar bear missing.

Thanks Ian, figures arrived painted from Dave.
They do look nice on the table.
Just need a horde of hairy bothered Scots to oppose them.

Bob, Helen is not due another 'roll call' of Polar Bears until 2021.
Should be safe till then.

To quote a great figure painter, when asked how to paint a lovely figure,
'You paint 10,000 & the 10,001st will be excellent'
I think the same will apply to our Tartan painting.
Thankfully we do have... how many to paint !!!!!!

With tartan, I strongly suggest getting a scrap piece of card or similar, and trying out various colours and patterns.
Plaids were woven using natural dyes and would be out in all weathers, so I try to avoid very intense colours. There's a pretty good site somewhere on the web showing the various natural colours available to Vikings. Scots would have a pretty similar range available.
So practice tartan on somewhere other than figures.. and impressionistic works.

Now done, the Empress SAS figures I bought at Hammerhead.
I have used my love for Portsmouth football team as a theme.
They all have (various) Pompey shirts. I used my collection of
shirts for reference. It covers many years, & dates back to when I
was a lot younger & fitter. I used to play 5-a-side two, sometimes three,
times a week. Now... never.
The great thing is because of the figure's body armour I didn't have to replicate
the club logo, or sponsorship details in 28mm. But I know it is there, under
all their clobber.

I'd like to know your colour schemes, other than the Pompey ones. I have similar figures to do.

I normally start with a burnt umber undercoat, and work up from there.
I never was interested in the 'Ultra Modern' period, but took part in a
wonderful game at Flatpack's, run by Ian. Great fun, even though it
most definitely was SNAFU! It was great fun. Dave, another of our group
lent me some 'Contractors' (Empress SAS). I was hooked.
I went for a mix of kit, no not just Pompey. Hence different browns & greens,
with a few washes. There is so much detail on the figures I went for 'Dry Brush'
with a small brush. Followed by selective thin washes. I did not want a (literally)
Uniform look. I hope that helps.
Take a look at Flatpack's game (sorry no good at doing links) for some very nice
pictures.

A 3D printed tower, picked up at Trade at Table, Hammerhead. useful for quite
a few things: Sci-Fi, Ultra Modern, WW2, Zombies, 50s 'B' Movies, Pulp etc.
An angry ape, one of those bits found at the bottom of boxes when having a
clear-out. Gone now to join the menagerie that is Askari (WW1 East coast Africa).
