It's been a while. Real life imposing on toy time.
Thought I would clear some alien flora off the work bench.

Nice to see you in amongst the vegetation with your anvil!
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

A 'new' project is for a family member.
Repair & revamp an Airfix 1/24th scale Spitfire.
It has lain in bits for decades. Pictures are what
I received.  I think I can scratch build the missing
bits, but my first problem is, that as soon as I start
removing the dust & grime the transfers are going to
flake off (some bits already have). I can't even get
some new transfers as the ones on the kit show the
very squadron that the model's owners Grandfather
flew in during WW2.
Any suggestions guys? ???
I am not looking forward to hand painting roundels :o

Just went over all 63 pages of amazing material and discussion here this evening.  I am truly in awe.  The sheer volume of figures and terrain is mind boggling.  Puts most of us to shame.

Thank you sir!

Dan

What Ho has been….
Another option is to use masks instead of transfers….such as these by Montex.
https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MXK24022?result-token=0454z
These should do what you want….you might have to source the squadron codes separately, but the codes are pretty much all that differentiates between squadrons.  The rest looks like it needs a good clean with cotton buds and dilute dish soap.

Are these of any use?

Unfortunately David Airfix revamped the kit & those transfers
are for the newer version. The 'customer'(nephew of the wife)
wants the original (KL B) as that was his grandfather's squadron.
No-one in the family knows HIS plane's code & the two sepia
pictures don't show the codes. I may well buy those just for the
roundels. Easier to hand paint letters :D

Thanks Sunburst, I did see that suggested during my own searches,
but the poster advised against using if you were hand painting &
not air-brushing, so not for me.

Many thanks CC. such comments keep me going. I really must
clear out  a lot of stuff, maybe in the New Year. So if anyone out
there is interested, or wants something made...contact me.

Hiya
You can still use stencils without an airbrush.  Just use a short bristled brush and stipple them vertically, building up the paint slowly.

The frame (the red bits) was picked up cheap off e-bay, so
I can't help with that. The 'Bells/gongs' are the lids from one
of those plug in air fresheners that have 3 scents (hence the
3 gongs)
Most of my creations 'Has.been' something else before I got
my little mitts on it/them. :D :D :D
