Burgundian longbowmen in riding boots (FINISHED!! 8/12/19)
« on: August 31, 2019, 10:24:15 AM »
A "what I did on my holidays" posting...

Added long riding boots to Perry WotR archers, in attempt to make a new unit of Burgundian longbowmen.
More on my blog, but summary is that the Ordinances of Charles the Bold show that mounted longbowmen were raised (probably from England) and specifies knee length riding boots. This is also supported by some visual evidence.
So, I've cut off the shoes and used green stuff to add turnovers, flap down the sides and buckles - to the best of my mediocre capabilities with putty pushing - nearly ready to paint up a unit of 18 of them.

Cheers
Simon.

Great stuff Simon, good to see the Burgundian project is still alive!

I'm planning on doing similar longbowmen conversions in the future....

While there certainly were English arches in Charles pay, I am also under the impression that archers could also be hired from the Burgundian lands in the northern France and Low Countries.

Those conversions look very promising, though those of us with less affinity for modelling putty might appreciate if the Perrys would get inspired to sculpt a few such packs for their European Armies range. Alternatively, if some other company could consider producing "dollies" (legs and torso) that the customer could complete with spare plastic heads and arms from the Perry sets...

Thanks for the comments and please 'steal away'...
Some progress on the painting - happy with how they've turned out.
