Space Cowboys (July/August Release)
« on: July 01, 2009, 01:45:04 PM »
Here are some pics of the next release from Rattrap. These will be sold together in one pack for $13.00 and all figures are 28mm. These were all painted by Chris Smith.

You cannot tell from the angle of the shot, but our Cowboy has some energy weapon damage to his face. He has a good Jonah Hex look to him. :)

Our Robot Marshal. Straight from the cover of Thrilling Expeditions Quarterly Vol. 1 #2

And finally, our Calanti native. Though normally part of a hive collective, occasionally a Calanti does find itself on its own.

Fantastic! The Robot Marshal is inspired and the world needed a good figure with a Jonah Hex look to it.

Ok, I need to ask who is Jonah Hex? It sounds like I ought to know him.

Jonah Hex is an old DC comics western hero. Half of his face is badly disfigured.

By the way, those ARE awesome figs! All of them. I especially like the Calanti native.
And the female with the rifle on her shoulder is cool too, as is the robot.
Jane! Stop this crazy thing!

Those figures are all cool but the Marshal steal the show I think.  I have been looking forward to seeing that guy since the cover of TEQ2 was shown waaay back.

Any plans for some space cowboy mounts?  A robot horse miniature would very much appeal to me (even though the idea of a robot marshal on a flesh and blood mount appeals more for some reason.  The robot mounts should be kept for the human riders I think.  I digress...)

Regardless, those figures go to the top of my wish list :)

these are great!

i was in the basement with the mushrooms and fertilizer when it came to knowing who JONAH HEX was . . .

might i make a FIREFLY-ish suggestion about mounts? why not go with 2 options; the plain old horse, and the plain old camel for those arid planets? or maybe a domisticated  xeno riding animal native to the world they are on?

but not a robot horse! to high tech and difficult to maintain  in a SPACE WESTERN  setting . . . .

other than that, i really do like theses figures!

"Vampirehunter D: Bloodlust" might be a source for inspiration for robotic horses.

Good call!

Off the top of my head I can really only think of a couple more: the robot horses from the movie Westworld (who were indistinguishable from regular horses) plus the two cheesy Saturday morning cartoon horses below.  There must be loads of other robot horses out there though.

He-Mans Robo-Horse

"30 30" Bravestarrs steed

30 30 could rear up and use his shotgun too, more of a sidekick than a steed really.  Amusingly ridiculous IMO.

Both of those examples are pretty goofy. In the context of space cowboys however where is the line drawn?  Space cowboys themselves are a bit goofy too.

And I want my robot horse figures gorrammit ;)

Speaking of 30-30 been trying to cobble something together to represent him now for some time. I have one of the Steam Horses from the Mage Knight line to cover most of his body. Just cant seem to get a set of good arms going. :-(

I forgot about that show!  I really liked the concept of it back then.  :)

Some neat looking figures. I like the robot cowboy. Reminds me of the original Battlestar Galactica episode when Starbuck or Apollo crashes on the planet and has a gunfight with the gunslinging Cylon Centurion.
Victory is guaranteed to the last man standing, but always remember those whom you stepped on to get there!!

That Robot Marshal is fantastic, hopefully North Star will pick these up for the UK.  :)
