Zvezda 1/72 English Medieval Ship Thomas Model Kit?
« on: October 14, 2019, 11:06:19 AM »
Does anyone have any idea where I can buy the Zvezda 1/72 English Medieval Ship Thomas Model Kit from? Preferably in the UK or the Europe but anywhere else will do if need be.

I've been in touch with a number of model suppliers including Zwezda themselves but haven't heard anything back from them so I thought it prudent to ask here too.

Perhaps there are some other 1/72 (or dare I say 1/56??) models of an English Cog out there that I am missing?

I'm planning on something along the lines of Sluys.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

It's a real shame they're so difficult to find, seeing as they're great models that clearly there's still demand for in the medieval wargaming community!

So far I've only been able to find them on Ebay (usually from Russia, if that helps?) going for around £30-£60 in most cases. If it helps the "Crusader Cog" and "Hansa Kogge" are functionally identical from what I've heard, but with different accessories!

Pretty sure they are the same model yes. The Thomas has a much larger crow's nest, which I ended up not using on mine.

Yeah, I need eight or nine of them too!

Thanks HappyChappy. I wasn't aware that there were any alternatives to this is great news.  8)

Best to keep searching eBay - picked mine up from there over last few years.
Simon.

I will try this week to check out the store in St. Petersburg. I’ll inform you about the result.

Yeah, I've been doing just that Simon but they're getting expensive now that they have been taken off the market.

I'm very tempted to start buying but I don't want to end up with only half the number after spending several hundred quid  :'(

As it stands it's a gamble. But if it was pulled off something like a mini Sluys could be played  :-*

Hard card boats, Google it, thank me later😀
I was looking for Zvezda ships as well, then came across Keranova, I was looking for 'Conquistador' boats though.  I've heard nothing but good things about them, there is a blog all about rigging them up (of course I can't find the link now).

I'm thanking you now! With the caveat that the gaps on the corners etc would be quite difficult to fill. i also think that they lack the solidness (possibly not robustness) that plastic has and it would be easier to convert the towers into cogs fitted out for war with plasticard etc

Here you go

Thanks. I'll try contacting them first I think. I know I am probably being too wary  ::)

The card boat shown is by the Russian company Umbum (translates from Creative Paper).

Their website is: cleverpaper.org

https://cleverpaper.org/product/268-%D1%81%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%BD%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B5%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%8B%D0%B9-%D0%B3%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B4-%D0%B3%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B7%D0%B5%D0%B9%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B9-%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%B3/

I have ordered from them and they ship very quickly and their stuff is very good quality.  I have some of their Wild West buildings (28mm), Medieval (28mm) and HO buildings (1/87).  They are fully coloured inside and out.  The buildings are designed to open to allow access within.  They are very sturdy, lightweight and do disassemble.

I am not sure of the scale of this boat.  I would just email them and ask.

I  don't really want to use the card boats as they have sketchy looking corners on the models and they might well be not so robust for when it comes to transportation.

In our city, in two stores, there were three "Thomas". It is interesting?
