My 40mm Musketeer Table
« on: March 13, 2007, 11:11:11 PM »
In the last few months I spent my entire spare time in building a gaming table for Eureka Miniature's 40mm Musketeer range and to play their excellent '...and One for All!' game on it. I loved these films from 1973 by Richard Lester with Michael York, Richard Chamberlain, Oliver Reed and Frank Finlay very much. Little did I know of what was to come since NO ONE seems to produce any kind of scenery for 40mm miniatures...
Pictures of all the miniatures have been posted on this forum earlier.

The whole thing was presented last weekend at Driscoles brilliant 'Do or Dice' Con up here in Kiel. We had a blast gaming on it and I must say that I enjoyed moderating these games very much because of the great gamers that turned up there. Thanx guys!

If anyone has made any pictures of us gaming, please pm me and let me have them!

This post will be rather lengthy and have quite a few pics, please enjoy them!

The bare gaming table.

It measures 63x63 cm of gaming area, the frame is about 7 cm wide. Threads are let in at certain points in order to allow pillars and a well to be screwed into the surface. The floor was created using vynil flooring, cut to pieces roughly the same size.

Actually, the frame was a cheap mirror frame, which had to be modified to slope towards the outer edge; mirror frames usually slope towards the inner edge, so the mitre had to be changed to the opposite side(I love online dictionaries!!).
Unfortunately, I am not too able to use instruments that are too large to be hidden in one hand, so the cuts I had to make have been, well, not very precise. Large gaps were showing on the edges and to hide them, I decided to sculpt four different faces over them. They were laid on with sheet metal to blend in with the rest of the mirror. One of the pictures of them (The laughing face) was not photographed very well, so the picture ist lost...

The first scenario in 'the capture of Constance', the mini-campaign by Greg Hallam called for the Bonancieux Lodgings, a two-storey(!!) interior scene with a lounging area on ground floor and rooms on the upper floor. Most of the building parts used are from Pardulon.com, the furniture in the lounging area are from Eureka Miniatures. 40mm beds had to be sculpted by me and cast from Pardulon. The cupboard actually is a christmas ornament which I moulded and cast in plaster. Since the building parts were 28mm scale, they had to be mounted on a 5mm balsa strip.

D'Artagnan and Planchet on the Balcony

The second scenaro called for a tavern, the bar and the oven had to be converted from Pardulon parts, the rest has been a straightforward build-up-and-paint-it job. I am quite fond of the chicken on the oven as I have sculpted them...

Tavern Inside

The final scenario called for a convent with washing lines from which clothes are hung. As I loved these scenes from the films, I had to have a try to recerate them!!
A Pillar was constructed by me, moulded and cast by Pardulon(This man is a genius when it come to casting!! Thanx, man!!!) and a screw has been glued under the base. These could then be screwed to the gaming table and a thread could then be hung between them and the well which was also screwed to the table.
The bedsheets are made of real silk cut to shape and then ironed by my Mom. She offered to iron 50 tiny pieces of silk, so I really have to thank her!

Hope You enjoyed the pics!

Cheers!

That is absolutely THE most stunning set up I have seen for Musketeers! The detail you have put into is amazing. I think Pete will be bestowing an honary Gloire knighthood on you.

OH MY!

Viktonik, you are hereby given the honor of the Order of St. Benedict Biscop, the patron saint of painters, but with the added distinction of the sable mantle and crossed brushes, the highest ornaments of this most noble Order.

All of which is a long way of saying OH MY THAT IS AMAZING WORK!

Extremely well done

I can't even begin to sum up what I like about it.

Very inspiring, I love all the details and the fact that you can use the same table for different scenes is brilliant.

I'm currently not into a musketeer setting ..but you are making me doubt now.

btw : big fan of those movies. I think they are the best movie series about the 3 musketeers.

Again : I love your work here !

Freaking AMAZING!!!     :o

I really like the fact that you used a picture frame as your base!  Very creative and from the results you can tell you've put one HELL of a lot of effort and time into it!

Thanks very much for sharing.   :)

Dear Vikotnik,

your table is abolutely amazing. I know the hard work you put into the whole project. And the result is stunning and you can be proud on every positive reaction you receive. In real its much better than on the pictures.

Iam very proud that you presented your game first at our Kiel Do Or Dice Convention.

Iam also very happy that you support us for 4 years either with painting and modelling hints, a Shockforce table together with Josef, your excellent Hott Table and now with the Musketeers.

Youre one of the guys who keep things going and  make the convention possible.

Thank you and Iam sure the next project will be also a great show !

Cheers
