Last month Mr Steve and I enjoyed a very pleasant day exploring some of the historic sites of Dorset which provided an eclectic mix of historic places and subjects to visit.
Part of our journeying took us to Hod Hill and Maiden Castle Hill Forts, the scenes of two attacks by Vespasian and his II Augusta Legion during the Roman invasion of Britain in 43 AD.

An excellent day out though you did miss out on 4 other hill forts - Hambledon Hill, Spetisbury Rings, Buzbury Rings, Badbury Rings and Dudsbury Camp in the area.

Thank you, sadly there are only so many hours in the day, so it’s good to have other options for the next time.

we also missed Maumbury Ring in Dorchester itself and the Dorset museum which is currently closed for renovation , add in the many stone circles and barrows near Maiden castle and I think we can easily justify a return visit in the future .
I have been to Badbury rings in the past when I stopped off on route to my visit to Fort Nelson artillery museum

Well milborne is halfway between Blandford and Dorchester so easily visited, the actual hillfort is off the Tolpuddle road.
