Muskets & Tomahawks II
« on: October 27, 2019, 10:34:25 AM »
Back in 2012, a new French games company, Studio Tomahawk, translated their first game into English. It was called Muskets and Tomahawks. It proved to be a massive success, though it got to be over shadowed a little bit by their other game, Saga.

M&T went out of print a couple of years ago, but rather than reprint, S.T. said they were working on the 2nd version and would rather print that.

Well it's written, and being translated into English right now.

North Star will be working with Studio Tomahawk to distribute the English Language version in the UK and USA, and to produce a range of miniatures to go with the game, much like Gripping Beast do with Saga.

And because it's us, I fancy doing a Nickstarter to get the release kicked off with a bit of fun.

It's going to be early 2020, so keep an eye on our announcements for more information.

Here's a couple of first pics of the miniatures, designed by Mike Owen, painted by Andrew Taylor.

These are great news! Muskets & Tomahawks is my favourite ruleset for the FIW.

Could you give us a heads up about the changes from first edition?

I have NO idea what that video is about. So I'll pretend it's not there.

I also don't know much about M&T II. We've not had a copy from Studio Tomahawk yet, nor a run down of what has changed. I get the impression it'll follow the same pattern as Saga II. There will be a rulebook, then everything you need to know about FIW will be in one supplement, War of 1812 in another etc.
##Update## The 1st supplement will actually cover F&IW, AWI and War of 1812.

That's what I think, like I said I haven't had a full brief yet. We've started the figures to get a head start on the release.

I'll keep you updated here.

There's already a North Star F & IW range, isn't there? Or was, because I bought some. I'm not complaining* by any means, but Nick's post makes it sound completely new.

* As long as it doesn't include a Justin Bieber sculpt.

We no longer own that range. It belongs to Badger Games USA now. I don't think they have put it out for sale yet.

We wanted to start with a brand new range for M&T II, to give it some consistency because it'll cover other periods than just F&IW.  'Best laid plans' and all that eh?  ::)

Nick
By other periods would you mean for instance American Revolution as in the first set, or (I wish it would be) the Sugar Island campaigns, or even the Eldorado: 18th century India?

I'm not 100% sure, like I said, I've not had a full brief from Studio Tomahawk, but they mentioned War of 1812, AWI and ACW. My good chum Duncan MacFarlane (Trent Miniatures) I think would love to see a Caribbean Wars late 18th Century book to be done.

Nick

How will compare your models with other manufacturers sizewise? I have most of what I need already painted, but those Canadian Militiamen/Coureur du Bois will come handy to fill some gaps in my collection.

Thanks!

If they are like the first range they are a little bigger than Warlord/Conquest.

They are very much the size of Artizan Design figures, if you have any of those.

They are chunkier than Conquest Miniatures, but not so much that if they were painted and based in the same style they'd stand out still.

Thanks Nick. Good to know.

Most of my French and Indians are Conquest. Your Canadian Militia will fit perfectly, then.

Looking forward to more information on the release.  Hopefully they have not changed too much of the rules.
