Land Army on horseback unlocked!

Hero Dogs next...

These are all based on real dogs, if you google any of their names with "WW2" after it, you'll be brought to lots of information and photo of them. They will melt your heart.

Beauty and Rip were blitz dogs in the UK, helping identify and rescue people in the rubble. Smoky isn't an English dog (she was stationed in America) but I found out about her and she has to be a mini so she's goin in! Still an allied doge. SHE HAD HER OWN PARACHUTE!

I figured these would be a lovely set with many uses outside of WW2 as well. They are being sculpted [as we speak!] by Jo Brumby, he also sculpted our peegs, bunnies, capybara & kitties.

Also I want to make a tea towel! More here!

Talking of hero dogs this one is not British but Canadian - not sure anyone makes a Newfie in 28mm?  :-*

Gander - Newfoundland -

Date of award - 15th August 2000. Gander aka Pal, is the first dog in fifty-five years to be awarded the Dickin Medal, and the only dog, from Canada to receive the award. The citation read: "For saving the lives of Canadian infantrymen during the Battle of Lye Mun on Hong Kong Island in December 1941. On 3 documented occasions (Pal aka) Gander, the Newfoundland mascot of the Royal Rifles of Canada, engaged the enemy as his regiment joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers, members of Battalion Headquarters 'C' Force and other Commonwealth troops in their courageous defence of the Island. Twice Gander's attacks halted the enemy's advance and protected groups of wounded soldiers. In a final act of bravery the war dog was killed in action gathering a grenade. Without Gander'as intervention many more lives would have been lost in the assault."

I would be pretty worried if I say a fully grown Newfie leaping at me!  lol

PS Interested in this one as I am trying to write a Campaign for CoC set in Hong Kong 1941 and involving the Winnipeg Rifles

Tried to find a hero Westie but no luck they are too independent for that lark

Baily and Bing are good but Gander actually saw off the Japanese twice by close assault and died while returning a Japanese grenade to its  thrower  thus saving the lives of several wounded Canadians.

I would have loved to see the Japanese soldiers face .

I'll just chuck this grenade in amongst the wounded and finish them off.....
Oh-oh as 120lb dog runs towards him with the grenade in its mouth
 lol
PS The report did not say if he took any Japanese with him  :'(

There's a hero Westie in the unlocked pack - Smoky :) She's American but I put her in because I fell in love of a photo of her sat in a helmet.

Here's a photo from Jo of her in progress. Teeny westie. She weighed not much more than one of my guinea pigs.

Yes I got Jo Brumby out of retirement specifically for this project, squeep!

Those are great dogs, I might expand later on but trying to keep mostly on the Women of WW2 for now, with the odd diversion of course ;) There was a navy mascot tortoise that caught my eye.....

DOGS ARE UNLOCKED BTW!
