Salute 2020 Carnage in the Jungle table
« on: November 15, 2019, 10:36:05 PM »
I did a little piece on the big trees I did in the Workshop area of the forum but I figured it's about time I start a thread to make sure I am applying some pressure on myself to get this done!

Rather than repeat what's there I will do a quick splash of where I am up to at the moment.

That's where I have got to with the jungle pieces so far. I am looking at some bamboo clumps next and am working out a way to thicken them up with cocktail sticks - images to follow on that later. I have also ordered one of these (6x4):

To use as the basis of the game. Some folks may roll their eyes, but this is a participation game. In past years I have tried to make more elaborate boards but I am limited by the size of my Mazda 2 and the 2 passengers I normally bring with me. So a mat seems to be best as it allows for more scatter terrain etc. Plus, I'm not looking to win any awards. Just to provide a game for folks to come join in and have fun playing for a few minutes whilst they take a breather, or to show their kids how fun a wargame can be that isn't 40k etc.

I'll be using the Carnage City rules, which are written by a friend - https://www.facebook.com/CCCTMG/

I have made a start on some of the factions too. Essentially, there will be several small factions that will enter play as and when new players come to join in. The idea is that they will have around 4-6 miniatures per player and have some objectives they can achieve. They can also get wiped out. Last year (and again this year too) this was played in an urban environment and it worked really well as a rolling endless game.

To give a little background to the game, the concept is that there is a portal (I still need to build this) which has been found by Rasputin and he is trying to open it to access nasties from the hellish realms to come forth and do his bidding. He will provide the main plot. With monsters popping up and activating randomly to attack nearby player models etc. They will have a sort of random Cthulhu feel and will include miniatures from Reaper, Fenris Games, Games Workshop and whatever else I can lay my hands on that feels suitable. There may or may not be a t-rex!

The discovery of the portal was originally by a team of scientists who set up a base there, supported by some mercs to protect them from looters and other threats the jungle might have. However, the powers that be lost contact with the base over a week ago and they have sent in teams to try and establish what has happened.

Rasputin:

Faction 1 - simians:
You can't have any carnage in the jungle without simians can you? The concept around them will be that there are some of their friends caged up at the camp. They are also on the hunt for fire-arms. So their mission is actually quite simple - free the caged simians and try to grab guns. I have some simians I am to convert with modern guns including some red simians and a gorilla with a LAW (though it looks a bit small on it). A mixture of simians will form the unarmed groups. Gorillas may have to be a bit tanky.

Other factions I am yet to start putting together include the specialist teams sent in to investigate the missing scientists and take out Rasputin. A force of foul and decaying aliens that are drawn to the power of the portal. Mercenaries hired to try and seize any valuable artefacts the science team may have uncovered. The New Earth Liberation Army who purely by coincidence believe the portal is evil and will stop at nothing to destroy it. There may be more, I haven't decided yet.

Looks like a fun game Matt - the gaming mat makes sense to me...far more practical to pack up at the end of the day than some of the boards I’ve hauled to Salute in the past

 lol

Hoping to get along next year if I get 5 mins peace from work.

Thanks buddy. Would be great to see you again. As it stands, might be heading to York next year at some point. :)

It has to be said, it is putting on games with you that inspired me to do this on and off since. This will be the 6th Salute table I will have put on now I think.

Looking good Matt - again! I doubt I'll get to play as likely working for Hasslefree again (I hope), but sign me up for whatever RP tat(joking) you make up this year  :)

would be great to see you again Akky, missed you the last couple.
