14th century Jinites?
« on: November 16, 2019, 10:28:02 AM »
Hi all,
I’m hopping to start up a 28mm Catalan Company for WAB this winter, and I’ve found models for most of the entries, but I’m struggling to find suitable 14th century Jinites - any suggestions from you lot?

Hi,

The best you're going to get, without converting, is Old Glory from their Crecy to Poitiers:

Off the top of my head I cannot think of anyone else who makes any.

Just to check, you do have the Vlad WAB book, yeah? John included a wealth of information on the involvement of the Catalan Company, them being hired by Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos to fight the Turks.

Eureka Miniatures do the only range of Almughavars:

I hope this is of some help?

Thanks Darr, I do have the Vlad-book, it’s what got me into the period in the first place, brilliant work by John. I only recently got my eye back on the Catalans, and wanted to do something different.
Do you know how the OG minis fit on Front Rank horses?

If you mean the company during the time of its greatest military activity, very early 14th century, then I’d just use Berbers.

For the early knights and sargeants I would use the Mirliton commune wars ranges, for the Alans use the eureka Byzantine heavies and horse archers.

Cheers
Matt

From what I remember, the OG mini's are a better fit for the Perry horses. I think the FR mounted mini's have the saddle a cast as part of the horse whilst Perry and OG have it cast on the rider. I could be wrong on this one as it's been a long time since I bought any OG mounted mini's.

Unfortunately, it'a hard to say as most of the pics on the OG site are very small :(
