Ruud's Fantasy Mischmash [Update 20.8.21]
« on: November 21, 2019, 08:44:30 AM »
Hello there!

Long time lurker, first time poster here...

I want to use this thread to post some pics: it'll be mostly Mordheim / Frostgrave related. However, I ordered the Rangers of Shadows Deep book and I'm starting to collect and finisch the pieces (Minis and Terrain) to give that ago. I'm exited for it! Since this topic will also be Mordheim (& WHFB) related, I opted to not post in the FG subforum.

My recent project is that I've been organising a small demo game of Frostgrave to try and see if I can get the Missus + family into it. She enjoys boardgames and unexpectedly liked the Kickstarter game "Village Attacks" a lot. That got me preparing for a round of FG to probe for interest. I want to run it with just 1 wizard, 1 close combat minion and 1ranged minion and only a couple of spells in order to keep it fun but not overwhelming. I took the opportunity to paint 3 new mini-warbands so that it shows some variation and choise in styles besides "just humans."

That makes a total of 5 "Mini-Warbands": Humans, Evil Humans, Goblins, Skaven, Undead (necro). I'm considering potential 6th (Beastmen), however finishung at least the first Column of FG Bestiary will be first. I have to say that I enjoy painting like this, because it gives so much variation to the mini's on my painting desk :)

I'm looking forward to your Comments, Critisism and Tips 'n Trics to improve :)

Finished yesterday: 2/3 of the Skaven

.

Finished earlier this month: The Gobbos

... and the Necro (2 minions are done as well).

.

My recent additions to the bestiary:

.

And an impression of how my part of Mordheim / Fellstad / ... looks like:

Happy Gaming :)

Oh, I like those!  And your part city looks great too.  Much better than I can do.

I particularly like the rusty weapons on the Skaven.  More pictures please.

Welcome! No tips or criticism from me (there are far better painters on here for that) but I like the way you painted your figures, especially the Necromancer. I have that figure and have been considering a suitable colour scheme. Your choice of colours makes him stand out on the table without looking too busy, and focusses attention on his expression without losing the details of the sculpt. Good luck with the game!

The city is simply superb!
Lovely minis, I really dig those old school Skavens!

Indeed. That's a pretty nice set up you have there. That should be a joy to play on/in. Love the style of your brushwork. Kind of bold but delicate too. The faces of the skaven particularly. Welldone. ;-)

Great looking table! Really brings back the memories of playing Mordheim. I currently aim for something similar but way less sophisticated. I especially like the verticality of your scenery!

The approach of building very low miniature count warbands to get people to play a few games crossed my mind many times and now I will probably do the same :)

Painting is great, I love the goblins and skaven especially! but that terrain set up is amazing! It must be a lot of fun to play games on that!
