Thad's Italian Wars - artillery added 11Feb2020
« on: November 26, 2019, 02:05:34 PM »
Hey all, a few weeks ago I got inspired by the discussion in this thread to finally get moving on my Italian Wars plans. As I suggested over there, my Swiss will be kitbashed Perry Mercenaries with Warlord Landsknechts, but based on some subsequent conversation over there, I've decided to put a little extra effort into converting the Perries...

Don't worry about the seeming "uniforms", I'm just blockpainting color sets to save time and energy. The actual regiments will look something like this...

They look fantastic. Perry and Warlord mix very well.

I have done the same thing my self, only I went for a slightly earlier look.

I have finished a unit of mounted arquebuses using Perry light cav., merc. and Warlord Landsknecht. I will post pictures when I have proper light for a photograph, but when I get off from work it's just too dark already.

I look forward to following this post.

Cheers
Erik

Hi all, thanks for the compliments!

Erik, thanks for pointing me to your thread! I will eventually produce something very much like your light cavalry. Also, some of my more armored Swiss will quite resemble your pikemen, there are just too many good-looking bits for me to be too fussed about exact historical accuracy.

And speaking of questionable historic accuracy, here are some kitbashed officers using Warlord ECW bits (and a GW head for extra fun!).

They look great. I especially like the guy with the great sword over his shoulder. Is that a homemade hat?

Glad you like my thread. As I wrote work is on the way on the mounted crossbowmen.

Cheers

hey Erik, the zweihander guy's hat is from Warlord's ECW infantry command sprue, with some grooves carved into the brim. He's my favorite of the bunch as well, I'm really pleased with how he turned out.

Anyway, here are some Swiss pike. Some of these were assembled before I started trimming jackets and pressmolding codpieces, so they're a little more 15th-century than my future Swiss will be. Overall, though, they're pretty much working as intended.

Wow, great work.  I love those Perry sculpts.  Apart from the natural way they hold the pikes.  Which drives me nuts.....

Nice  8) 8) 8)

funnily enough I was going to ask if you were going to go for big units or were putting together a skirmish force.

I'm guessing you're doing both(?).

Thanks all!

Atheling, I basically always do both. While I theoretically agree that multi-based units usually look better and more dramatic, I personally have a pretty solid mental block against basing my minis on anything but 20x20mm for infantry and 25x50mm for cavalry. I always want to at least have the option of using a given mini for Witchfinder General or Mordheim or even a tabletop RPG combat session.
