Yes that makes sense.

So, doing a batch of seven won’t work, the other two are taller buttress types but I can only fit five on my spray tray.    Need to latex these next.

A suggestion on your trees with respect to wrapping/wiring... Take some additional wire and wap in opposite direction. It will lessen the visual effect of...well, wire wrapped trees.  :)

I did this for some Acacias many years ago, and it made a big difference.

Wow! Those trees and hippos look great, the hippo idea has me inspired to do something like that myself.

Good thinking, thanks.  Tbh though, once they have two layers of latex painted on, they look fine.  Also, many trees do grow spiral fashion so I’m not too worried.

Better picture with hippos trimmed.  I need to redo the ears on two of them but otherwise ok.  Just need another long one and that will do me, I can get em painted then.

You are probably already aware (or maybe mentioned earlier in the thread!?  :?) but here is a link to Gringo 40's parrots:

Just in case you were not aware.  And if you know of similar in 15 mm, I'd sure love to know about it!

Wow, amazing herd.  I guess I better get busy looking for hippos (in 15mm).

Dan, for 15 mm hippos start with Irregular Miniatures in their animal range.  Toob small baby zoo animals has a hippo.  And I've found at toy stores in their spinner racks some plastic hippos that I've used to cut into waterline models.  Not aware of any 15 mm waterline metal hippos unless there is one in M.Y. miniatures ranges.

Irregular's 15 mm animal range is the single best place to find African animals.  If you are looking for some African Cape Buffalo, PM me - not free but 7 poses plus a dead beast.

Wonderful thread 8)

An anecdote you might be interested in; I have a friend from Rhodesia(as it was then,he was in the Rhodesian Light Infantry, that’s another story),who use to go spear fishing in the rivers, the best spots apparently were  the underwater caverns the hippos lived in,of course they’d go when the hippos weren’t at home...

I never realised they lived in caverns.  They can’t actually swim, I know that.  They run along the bottom and have to reach shallow water or push themselves up to get air.  There was a program about them on telly a month or so back.

Not sure they live in caverns, possibly as a nursery for the calves, and the story could be apocryphal, old soldiers tales and all that, however they would certainly use what's there :)
Interesting fact; they can sleep under water, unconsciously rising to breath.
