Ancient Germanic Cavalry Question
« on: December 21, 2019, 09:25:12 PM »
Just looking at Victrix Gallic cavalry and Ancient German warriors, if i made a Gallic cavalry figure
with a Germanic head would it pass for Germanic cavalry?

The border between Gaul and Germany was porous and my understanding is many Gallic tribes were fairly Germanic in origin.
For the late Roman Republic, Early Imperial period I think it would be reasonable to use the Gallic cavalry with a head swap.

The „border“ was for a good part invented by Caesar to explain why he was unable to form a strong base east of the Rhine and retreated. You have „Gallic“ (i.e. Latene) finds and possibly settlements in southern Germany, northern central Germany and Bohemia. So in any way the tribes claiming to be Germanic (according to the finds living in what is now northern Germany, southern Scandinavia and Poland) were in regular contact with their Gallic neighbors.

ok thanks guys for the info, i was going to use the Germanics as allies to the Dacians but with a
little research found out that its the Celts that would be allies to them as they both fought against the Germanic tribes. These tribes would be opponents for my Early Imperial Roman army so it would be the era of Trajan or there abouts that i would stage these battles
