Ideas? WWII 28mm Greek
« on: December 08, 2019, 09:09:20 PM »
I’m the proud owner of a very nice Greek army, mostly supplied by Great Escape Games.
However, I’d love to add a higher command figure, a major or captain figure, maybe on a horse?

Any idea on figure choice?
Figures by Great Escape are lovely chunky sculpts, and are mountain Greek troops.
So something compatible?

I know this one is a tough one...

There is a dedicated range of WWII Greeks here:
https://www.templarwargames.co.uk/page/28mm-ww2

They have a command pack, that might be useful. The Evzones (or maybe mountaineers) were a minority, I am not sure but I think they were approx. 5 regiments out of 70, I cannot tell you whether the Burn's miniatures are compatible with Great Escape ones, since I do not have seen any of the latter.

Anyhow the officers of the era would have side caps, greek helmet or peaked caps similar if not identical to the british one. Some might even retain their kepi. A good proxy could be Tiger miniatures greek general in kepi (khaki, not full dress blue)  (http://www.tigerminiatures.co.uk/page29.htm) . This can be used as it is or via head swap with peaked cap or side cap. As a proxy Italian helmeted heads might be used.

How about WWI British officers from either Great War Miniatures or Mutton Chop?

How about this guy with a head swop?
He’s from Great War Miniatures.
Would, Greek Ezones - Mountain Infantry units have higher command on horses?

Whilst I’m on the whole Greek WWII subject.....

I’m considering more civilian fighters, I’ve currently got a unit of French Resistance painted up from Wargames Foundry.
I’d love to get the actual Greek Partisans from Gorgon miniatures, but whilst the figures are a fair price, postage is way too much. I think 2 packs of figures was £14 but postage was £16!
Does anybody stock Gorgon in the UK or EU?
Failing that I may have to look at Crusader Partisans

Thanks again

as I posted in some earlier discussion avoid the figures with the "mono" and soviet weapons. For greek partizans a good proxy would be in civilian dress with german helmet and side caps!
Armament mixed german and british! I also suggest use of Footsore IRA fighters in civilian outfits.
For inspiration see:
http://pastincolor.blogspot.com/2019/12/1944_2.html

The blogspot is very interesting with colourized photos from the past!

as for Gorgon Studio partizans, they are meant to be for Crete only! Suitable for Battle of Crete to the liberation and civil war. Only few are for use outside Crete (Those not in breeches).

Thoughts on the mounted officer?

Thoughts on the mounted officer?

Too british to me! The very higher command wear full British uniform.

The tiger miniatures Balkan wars are suitable for some conversions, too. At least rifle and equipment is the same.
During the 1940 campaign has one cavalry brigade which retained their French Adrian helmets, so although I cannot recommend about the various sizes of miniatures, Tiger miniatures cavalry with headswap could do a good proxy.

one other topic greek gendarmerie and a nice setting and scenario as an  excuse to use that Gorgon Studios partisans:
  http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=114667.0

As a general term for greek partisans use International Brigades bodies with various heads (no fez or gorillo please. although cavalry used the Adrian helmet I have not seen a single partizan using it)
