there is one with Tom Selleck
the Italian title is
Gli Avventurieri ai confini del mondo,
but I don't know the original name.
Piero

This one's High Road to China.  I like it.
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

There is another one, a rather unknown, obsvcure movie titled Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which starts in China. :D

I dimly recall some TV series, which I saw on German television in the 1970s. It was called "die gelbe Karavane" (which would be "The yellow caravan" in English though that is probably not the original name). All I remember is a scene where some kind of semitruck was hanging over the side of some cliff and people were trying to rescue the driver. But hey, that was 30some years ago...

Might have been. I was really young at that time and of course didn't pay attention to historic details.

The Painted Veil (3rd remake in 2006 with Naomi Watts)

is based on the 1925 novel of the same title by W. Somerset Maugham.

Most of the ones that I can think of have already been mentioned. But I have a couple of movies set in the late 1800s that make for a good game background or 3. They are "Once Apon A Time In China" I & II. More Boxer rebellion than Warlord-era but a lot of Chinese martial societies & stuff.

Being WW2 era it's not quite the right time period, but Magnificent Warriors (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094375/) is set in Mongolia and I vaguely recall it having a Warlord-era China feel to it. It's definitely more of a martial arts movie than anything, but it's a fairly enjoyable romp. It's kind of like a female Indiana Jones movie with kung fu and the Japanese army attacking a Mongolian city.

"Keys of the Kingdom" made in 1944, has a battle with warlords in both the movie and the book.

Not the subject area, but was there a movie made with a 1950's British Warship being attacked on a river in China?
