A bit more snail-like progress today....

....Chimney is still a mess. Have plugged a couple of the larger gaps with a bit of sand, as a bit of an experiment.

Expanded PVC is the same stuff in the states.  Cosplayers use it to make the hard parts of their costumes.

I am going to have to check that out- it looks like a really useful material.

Expanded PVC is common in the sign business (which is where I work).  Look for Sintra, Komatex, Intacel - these are all brand names.

Thanks for the pointers all!  Makes me feel sillier as I had already unknowingly bought some as "expanded PVC"  ;D. Hadn't thought about chopping it up for buildings though... seeing your results I'll need to explore that.  :D

I’d talk about the lean on the walls but to be fair I’m surprised the whole structure hasn’t collapsed

That actually looks like it would fall over in a puff of wind  ;)
That’s some terrible cowboy builder bricklaying.

I bet it’s going to look fab when you’ve worked your magic on it though Matt  :)
