This is a fantastic build. Well done.
Can you explain the materials and techniques?
Is it just Balsa wood and PVA glue?
Do you cut with a saw or a scalpel?
Do you use a lot of clamps?
Do you do a lot of sanding to get the curves?
Thanks
Mick
Hi, thanks for the questions:
the techniques are the same as for static wooden ship models, in fact I use the same plan for the corel half moon kit
https://victoryshipmodels.com/ship-model-half-moon-wooden-static-kit-corel-dutch-galleon.html. It always starts with an innere structure made of 4mm plywood. Than I use balsa to form the shape of the hull as shown in this picture.
The first planking is made of 1,5x5mm basswood. This is a standard material to build ship models. Before applying the planks they were cooked in boiled water to soften them and fixed with clothes pegs.
For the side walls I use three layers to stabilize the walls.
To shape the curves I use a vibrating grinder; this tool is awesome and it is very fast
The final planking is made with walnut 0,5x5mm planks.
