Given the lack of data, I think GB’s offering as good as any for bowmen, but would look to Anglo-Danes for higher status troops
For the Cambro-Norman presence in Ireland a century later, I think Andy Hobday’s Barons’ War archers worthy of consideration.
That's pretty much what I've decided upon. Mainly Thegn and Ceorl types. There clothing, stylistically, is far too late.
I thought they looked okay for c.1170, matching the image of the shepherds in the Winchester Psalter, for example.
Correct, but that would be the 12th Century
As a resident of Wales there's a tradition that 'war shirts' were red.I've no idea of it's authenticity or age but I thought I'd mention it.This is allegedly why the modern Welsh national team's rugby shirt is red! You pays your money and takes your choice! ;-)
No offence taken. You have to try much harder than that to offend me!I just thought it offered a possibly authentic idea for a theme in colour schemes. YMMV.
My remark was not mean't to cause offence. Please refer to my original post at the start of the thread
No offence taken by me either. But curious as to why you think my doughty Celtic slave-raiding ancestors wouldn't have access to red clothing?
What to Use as 11th Century Welsh Warriors?Has anyone got any ideas for which manufacturer/s I can legitimately use as 11th Century Welsh Warriors in 28mm?They're for the Battle of Shrewsbury 1069 game and to be honest, through lack of evidence I'm at a bit of a loss. There's Gripping Beast's lovely Welsh range but they are way too early. Any ideas please?
Aah, the uniformity issue.OTOH, no one has any problem with a large gaggle of 16th Century Irish kerns all dressed in saphron yellow?
