Lost Egg's Primaris Chapter - The Battle Crows
« on: January 02, 2020, 08:48:16 PM »
Hi all,

With the arrival of 2020 I have been revising my projects, both active and for the future.

I'm autistic and tend to get overloaded easily, at the same time I have a tendency to start projects that are much bigger than I can complete without crashing. So, for the new year I have put everything else On Hold, to start something new...well... return to a project idea I have tried, without success, a few times. Each time, I have struggled to nail down my idea before starting...but now I think I have it sussed. So, without further waffle I present the...

Inspired by Lindybeige's Platoons video* my plan is to create a primaris platoon...but...I am officially not placing any further pressure on myself.

This is likely to be a slow burn project with no goals and the freedom to pick other minis to paint up. Now, I do have one other project I will be working on alongside this** and to help prevent overload I plan to flit between them as my desire takes me.

**Age of Bronze - This project is bigger but much more of a personal project. It's a small skirmish game I'm creating set in early Bronze Age Britain. It's just for kicks really.

My current project...Classic Wargame - An experiment in 24" of wargaming!

A slight confession...I originally started this project a few weeks ago on Warseer but with all the problems over there I thought it'd be a good idea to move this plog to the LAF...on the plus side I have some progress pics of what I have done so far...

I already built this guy...

He's now had a lick of paint...

...which I finished just a couple of days ago. Overall I'm pretty happy with how the colour scheme is working out; apologies for the overly bright pics. The armour is maybe a bit darker than I had originally intended but I like the gritty look. It didn't take long to build up the next mini of my first squad...

This fella needed a wee bit of subtle conversion work on the bolt rifle and the power fist. I will undercoat him tomorrow then I can crack out the brushes...

Works well as a scheme  :)

What size force are you going for?
cheers

Thanks guys.  8)

@Oshiro  My rough aim for now is to build 2 units of 5 Intercessors, 1 unit of 5 Hellblasters, a Lieutenant and a Dread. I've a mind to add a Librarian and maybe a couple of transports too but for now I will focus on building a squad :D

@Ultravillan I've got a bag of 20 more of these primaris beakies...to my mind that is the most iconic element of a 40k marine.

Big-size beakies! I am really struck by that. Feels more "right" than other Primaris builds.

Nice colours and ideas so far - I'll be following this thread.

Thanks BP! I know what you mean, there is something so...right about a marine wearing a beaky helmet and I think GW did a good job of the new version. It was pricey to get so many but sadly FW aren't going to do any (I asked)...in fact they didn't seem to even know that there were any in the RG upgrade sprue.

No idea what the new terms are but it seems a perfectly achievable force  :)

Should be achievable...though at the speed I paint it'll still take me a while :D

Intercessors = bolter marines and a aux grenade launcher option

Hellblasters = 5 plasma gun marines

I've finally finished this chap...

The only real difference for this fella is the red helmet stripe and the power fist; I'm pretty happy with the effect I used for the fingers of the fist, blending purple and blue washes. He seemed to take an age to finish painting as have been busy re-decorating our lounge but we are just about done now so hopefully the next trooper will be quicker.
