Pulp Alley AAR: The Fog
« on: January 04, 2020, 07:46:45 PM »
Whomever1 and I had a go at The Fog, the Cthulhu-tastic Scenario of the Month from October, a couple of days ago.  Here's a few photos, and a link to the AAR.

The lighthouse on rugged Forkney Island, scene of the action...

League leader Kaspar Guffman is engulfed in perilous fog...

Sidekick Joel Kairo faces a very large and scary Dagonite...

More photos, and an AAR, right here: https://imgur.com/gallery/kTH0Reh
Thanks to Whomever1, and to you for your interest,

It was a beautiful table. My son chided me for not taking a video shot of the layout, so we could show the lighthouse light turning. And the fog banks coming in--the eerie hooting noises coming from the shoreline...uh. ANYway--it was pretty tough. Even playing co-op it could have been a Total Party Kill if a few rolls had gone differently.

A fun looking game.  Where did you get the shrine stones from?

Thanks, syrinx0!  The standing stones are from a resin burial mound set made by Scotia Grendel:

Thanks, Oldben1...I looked at all kinds of expensive model solutions for a lighthouse, and finally settled on a cheap lawn ornament!

On a side note--does anyone think it's possible to make cool Fimir minis? Those Rags used for this scenario were all from Heroquest, as far as I know. And they were fine plastic minis to get in a board game of the time, plus their backstory was kind of colorful--lurid, even. But the fact that they have one eye makes them unconvincing to me. Cyclops minis as well, and at least they're humanoid. Anyway--just trying to visualize what a really great fimir mini would look like, and I can't.

The Jez Goodwin metal originals (like this guy) are quite nice miniatures - much bigger and with much more presence than the Heroquest ones. The bigger size was a factor in their relative commercial failure, apparently - because the models were too big (and expensive) for their Warhammer statline (about the same as a lizardman's, if I remember correctly).

I know what you mean about the one eye, though.

That looks like a great game of Pulp Alley; I've been dusting down and painting up some miniatures to get back into playing it after buying the second edition the other day.

For reference, these were the fimir minis I had on hand to use in the game.  Since their back story is aquatic and they shroud themselves in mist, they seemed the best choice for the scenario, given my lack of any actual Cthulhu ones.  The plastic ones are in front -- the large ones in the back are some of the minis Hobgoblin refers to:

The cyclops look was Games Workshop's decision.
