Fantastic painting.

The redoubt spearmen seem really nice.

Ah, glad you asked.  :)  It's standard copy paper cut into thin strips, super glued in place.  I then run super glue over all of the reins, so it soaks in.  I *hope* this will be provide a strong enough model if used with care.

I like these, well done.
As for reins of working game figures. My old solution was to cut up old lead paint tubes. Flatten then cut into strips. But now that is harder to find.
Now I use foil from wine bottle covers, flattened and burnished. But now I don't do wine, so that's out.
I'm looking for a hobby solution since I need to do some reins.
In my area paper infused with glue always breaks down over time to the coastal climate and super dry periods. I have tried white glue, super glue, and various clear coats with limited success. The metal one stay around. They may come unattached but they don't dissolve entirely.

Linked is an example of lead sheet reins.

Just a quick photo of the process:

Burnish the wine bottle foil.
Tape an edge and cut into 1mm (or so) strips.

The end result is a bendable strap that can be placed, glued, and holds its shape.

I prime with gloss white to give these real solid base.

I intend to write this up fo the website soon. But this is about as complicated as it gets. The great part is one can glue the ends on the blind sides, you don't need knots, and they stay stuck. Also a good technique for adding sword straps and flaps to figures. There I like to fill in with white glue to give it paintable depth.

I was just thinking about doing some horse reins and weapon straps, so this is good timing for me! :D I was thinking of trying bread ties.
