Italian Wars Project goes on Campaign
« on: January 08, 2020, 02:36:39 PM »

https://yarkshiregamer.blogspot.com/2020/01/italian-wars-campaigning.html

Hi all,

One of the topics of discussion on the Twitters when I did my review of the Furioso rule set was options for running a Campaign in the period.

To be honest it's perfect Campaigning territory, individual Condottieri fighting each other, for honour, power and standing, being hired and fired by the powerful City States involved, with lots of Machiavellian intrigue, what's not to like !

I found a set of Campaign rules from a Company called Real Time Wargames (new to me) and took a punt. They look ideal so I've had an in-depth look at them and done some videos as well.

Stand by for Incoming Campaign updates.

I wasn't aware of them unfortunately and as I have been looking for a Campaign System for a while they are pretty well hidden !

Pike & Plunder is listed 4th in a search for "Italian Wars" on Wargame Vault - https://www.wargamevault.com/browse.php?keywords=Italian+wars

They also have had their own web site since 2007 - https://pikeandplunder.vexillia.com/

Thanks, I also know the author. But I didn't find them, if I did I would have reviewed them, I didn't, this is a review of the set I found.

Very interesting. I will definitely be following this tread, as I have wanted to tryout a campaign myself for quite some time.

Are you familiar with Foundry’s Condottiere Dogs of War game? The rules for wargaming are somewhat old-school and quite difficult to handle, as they require singlebased miniatures or a lot of bookkeeping, as soldiers can be both killed, panicked or dazed from combat. The campaign system on the other hand is great.

Cheers
Erik

Hi Erik,

Is that the Frank Chadwick set  ? It was one I have looked for in the past when I was searching for rules, but it has very mixed reviews so never bothered. Is it worth searching for ?

It is the Chadwick set.  The tactical rules are adequate, but the campaign rules are quite good.  It’s worth having if you are interested in the period.

I agree with Richbliss. The book is also very nice with lots of pictures and a joy to browse. Even though I dont play the game the book is often out from the bookcase just because needed some light read.

Cheers

I use them for the Von Trinkenessen Chronicles, but there again I don't take things too seriously.
They would have benefited from a decent edit and more proof reading  o_o .
However my sons' love the fate deck and always like to zap dad just as I'm about to make my masterstroke..... :D

Yarkshire gamer,

I loved the unit by unit shots you did on YouTube.

Is there any chance that you might post up a series of unit by unit pics here please? One at a time would do :)
