Space fighters combat?
« on: January 09, 2020, 08:12:29 PM »
I have the chance to acquire some 1st edition X-Wing stuff at a bargain price. I'm tempted but I have to say I'm not particularly fond of the game system (I tryed the game and, while I do love WWI Wings of War, I was less than impressed by X-Wing). So, since the deal is good enough for the models alone,  I'm asking suggestions for a space combat ruleset that could allow me to use X-Wing models. All those I know seems more indicated for larger ships. It needs to have some customizability options, to allow me to adapt ship profiles to Star Wars space fighters. Bonus if it's simple and doesn't require a lot of book keeping. I know, X-Wings looks like what I'm looking for... ^^;

There will be a version of Fistful of Lead coming out at some point. I’ve played a test version and it works great. There will be customisation along with build opportunities  :)
cheers

Nope  :)

Jaye has been working on altering FFoL for it over the past couple of months.

Thanks for suggestions.

Star Eagles has just one review on WV and it is not a very good one...

Will keep an eye on Baron's progresses.

Anything else already available?

Silent Death.  Still available as pdfs last I looked, and not hard to find print copies used online.  Has a design-your-own system, and if you dig around you can probably find the old Star Wars Gamer magazine article from...2000?  1999?  That did some of the iconic ships (X, Y, TIEs, maybe more) for the rules and save some work.

5150 fighter command?

Basically solo rules for generating something that looks a lot like Wing Commander missions.

There’s a conversion pdf with Star Wars stats.

Brigade Models has Squadron Commander. http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/Gaming/SCR/index.html No idea about how well it plays, but for free it’s worth a look.

Interesting thread, I have rather a few Crimson Skies 'planes which may benefit from the above suggestions, the rules themselves (Crimson Skies) are rather clunky.

Bag the Hun from Two Fat Lardies is widely admired. There is a Bag the Jedi expansion in the Compendium.

Not to hijack the thread (yet I'm doing it anyways lol ), but I recently bought into Crimson Skies (the pre-painted plastics) at a bargain price, because I loved the old PC game, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

Is it that cumbersome?

I know there is some grumbling going on in regards to the maneuver templates (all those hexes do appear a tad convoluted), and I found someone on Boardgamegeek who ported the X-Wing rules to CS. I happen to like X-Wing (1.0), and played it to death for years, so that would certainly be an option, but doing up all the cards, templates and dials is a lot of work for a simple and small game that will not be played much anyway.

I'm not opposed to trying the original rules, but any suggestions for using the CS planes in another system are obviously welcome :)
