Wild West Town - Building One In 1/56 Scale!
« on: October 17, 2020, 04:54:23 AM »
We have only played Dead Man's Hand once but it was such a hoot and the reaction so positive we knew we'd play more often and of course what do you need to play an Old Wild West game but an Old Wild West Town!

I was in two minds when it came to this build, do I make just facades and have a Hollywood town or make complete buildings, well I went with the latter!

I figured we'd need several buildings and luckily before I started a mate said he had a Wild West Saloon already built great news!

My on hand parts included; 2mm 1mm & 0.5mm sheet styrene, pop sticks (ice-cream sticks or coffee stirrers to others), wood skewers, some roughly cut squares of thin wood, a piece of Masonite and some balsawood.

Construction was to be as simple as possible giving basic but robust buildings, here's how they came together, the walls..

A floor was made of pop sticks and here you can see how I scored the sheet styrene to give a planking look...

I repeated this five times over and printed up some signs...

A railway platform was of course required!

I then included a MDF laser cut Shearing Shed that could be either a Blacksmiths or building under construction, at this point my mate brought over his saloon (which had a shop attached) and it turned out to be a facade only which is the construction style I originally thought of using but didn't DOH! Luckily it won't matter in game play!

And here's now our Old Wild West Town turned out!

Many more pictures and details of the build are on the TSOG Blog here...

Inspiring work!  Makes me want to finally build the Mexican village from the film The Magnificent Seven (1960).

Nice town you've got there, it would be a shame if somebody shot it up.
