FIW/AWI Blockhouse?
« on: January 21, 2020, 05:51:17 PM »
I am mobilizing for the release of Muskets & Tomahawks 2 and looking for a two storey blockhouse for my 40mm Trident/Front Rank forces. I realize this is hard to find in 40mm scale so I thought I would try to ”scale-up” a 28mm model by incresing the height of the walls. The best candidate for this excercise, that I have found, is the model from 4Ground:

I have also seen the Grand Manner model but it is 4x the price so that is not an option. I would be most grateful for any other alternatives or advice on this topic. Thanks!

In all honesty, you might be best just to scratch build for 40mm. If I was doing it, I would make a cardboard core, and use cut dowel to do the logs.

Maybe look for a 1/35th scale plastic play set for the AWI.  I'd guess there is one out there with a block house.  No idea how much it might cost.

Sash and Saber do a nice 40mm blockhouse in their F&I range. They have a picture of it on their site. http://www.sashandsaber.com/catalog40FNI.php4

For 40mm figures, you could order a set of Lincoln Logs from Amazon. With a little work, they paint up very nicely. Or leave them natural for a retro toy soldier look:

I think this would be about as much work as "upscaling" a 28mm model, look better, and be far cheaper.  Especially if you were considering the 4ground one, it looks like planked logs so they don't even need to be round, which should make gaps/joins/cuts all much easier.  :)

Edit: heck if you don't want to deal with dowel, you could probably make your life even easier and just go all foam like this video:

Traveller, Triguard will be adding a 40mm series of buildings for the AWI/FIW ranges this year. Based on the examples available from places like Fort Loudon in Tennessee, we will make urethane models that you will need to assemble yourself, and will give you some flexibility in the sort of forts you can build. These will include a block house.
I can't give you a delivery date yet, but the aim is sometime in the first half of this year. Apologies if that is not fast enough.
