Scrub/Brush for the Sudan in 10mm?
« on: February 02, 2020, 07:39:21 AM »
I want to make some scrub/brush/small trees for my 10mm sudan project, but am unsure what to use. I feel like lichen will look too large and out of scale. Any ideas?

I made some small stubby trees for 15mm. I used Woodland Scenics trees but cut small branches about 15-20mms high with some clump foliage for a bit of greenery.
Not easy to model the stripped branches when used as a defensive wall. I agree that lichen would look out of scale. Wire wool may be better but it is not nice to work with. It may be doable with poly fibre.

Woodland Scenics Coarse Turf and Underbrush ought to work a charm for the Scrub/Bush - if you can get it the right colors (or paint it to the right color).  Very small Woodland Scenic trees should make fine 10 mm trees.  I'm not averse to the use of lichen but it might be a challenge in 10 mm - unless you very carefully sort through a pack and pick the pieces that work best which is definitely workable.

You have to remember that this is scrub. The trees are nowhere near as tall as in England. I'm sure I have read that cavalry or mounted infantry could be surprised because they could see above the scrub but they could not see infantry below the canopy.
